So… beck…

(i can feel the daggers from here, )

CHICKITY-PA, CHICKITY-PA!

haha, still kills me...

Nah, Phen's fine, but sometimes I need to remember my real name. :P

Wanna know why? I may a Beck, but I'm not Jeff Beck or Beck Hansen. Not every Beck is a musician you know. :)

Chickity-pa could contribute to world peace. Everyone willl agree how great that phrase is.

No way. XD Somebody already calls me that and it's irritating enough as it is. Most of the time I'm Beck, Phen or Mrs Lizard Jewstein. (That last one is a bizarre story....)
So take your pick. On special occassions I'm the Phenmeister (as my myspaz URL says), but you'll have to wait till my birthday for that. Then again, it is the start of Channukah.... Eh, whatever. My name varies, let's go with that.

Kate does rule, lifer. I guess we can expect the next album from her in about 15 years, since the time between each one get longer and longer. Do you have her last one, Aerial?

lol, that's the truth. at least we get something from her now and then, unlike ... well, you know

i esp love the early stuff, (up until Hounds of Love (masterpiece!) - but i'm ecstatic when she comes out with anything.

her voice plays me like a fiddle, lol

lately, some tv shows have been playing her stuff, esp during sad scenes,
and even if the show sucks, she makes me cry... silly, huh?

which is your favorite? (you, too, becky… hmmm. Phen, or maybe beck, works better with your spitfire attitude…imo, ‘becky’ sounds too nice for me to mess with, :P )

Her first 3 albums are my favourites. I love all of her albums though, so what am I saying?

She's such a mystery, and her range is bloody amazing.

I don't really mind. Beck is probably my favourite (not by much though) because my dad calls me that, and it reminds me of this guy in a record shop who calls me Jeff because of Jeff Beck. Everyone can take their pick of whatever name I listed to apply to me.

Yep! I love that reference as well. It's funny to think that 2000 has come and gone... nevertheless the song is timeless!

I'll have to edify myself later with these, but thanks for the links

the "I seem to have left an important part of my brain somewhere" made me think of the pixies' "where is my mind?"

do you like them? not for everyone, for sure ...

ugh, gotta go. such a pisser of a day...

....thanks for the kl laugh

Yeah, I like the Pixies. Then everybody else started liking them too, so I stopped listening to them so much. I like to listen to bands that will set me apart, since it'll make me look clever. XD "Steely who?" My mission is complete.

Why not just listen to bands that you just like? I've never understood why people would want to listen to something different just for the sake of being different. It's a stupid reason.

ive got kinda of an example.... 80's gary moore was some great stuff for me...AND it was almost secretive,, not many people knew about him.. so i enjoyed the music and enjoyed sharing it with other rockers.. THEN the blues stuff hit.. everyone is buying Still Got the Blues for You... it sorta took away the magic... hard to explain..

I just listen to them anyway, I don't listen to Steely Dan for the hell of it - they're a fine band. I liked the Pixies a lot when I was about 11, when I was young and naive. I couldn't stand blending into the musical fabric of those around me, so I avoided it at all costs. Nowadays, it's just normal for me. Hardly any modern music does anything for me.

Here's a prime example of a band I like that nobody else knows about. The Sadistic Mika Band, a Japanese pop-rock group that started in the 70s. Like Journey, they've changed their singers are few times and people always argue about who's the best. (They argue over the female lead vocals rather than the male). Mika, Karen and Kaera are the female culprits. Personally, I like Mika the best... although Karen is better vocally, Mika was more lively, and I'm a firm believer in music being fun. Here's some clips.

In the 70s, they were more classic pop-rock.
SMB on a Japanese pop TV programme... singing "Hi, Baby" , 1975. (Mika as female lead)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Mz8enqM5o0

SMB at what seems to be a Japanese Woodstock. (Mika singing backing vocals) "Suki, Suki, Suki", 1974.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwfxongUQfk&feature=related

Cut forward to the grand reforming of the band in 1989, with Karen on lead vocals. They had a more AOR sound.

Boys & Girls (My favourite Karen track)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYeutC893ts

The only videos with Kaera are just covers of SMB songs in the Mika days (such as Time Machine), so I can't be bothered posting that.

Image whatever... :P
(& funny how things change. in my day, jrny was what everyone was listening to, not the pixies (in fact they were pretty much unheard of...which is one reason i LOVED them, lol) now in your world, just the opposite)

'Gigantic' and 'Where is my mind?" are brilliant, imo

It's funny how times change. Gigantic is awesome. :) "Monkey Gone To Heaven" and "Debaser" were always my favourites. Doolittle is a fantastic album.

Agreed. Sometimes the good stuff becomes what the status quo likes.

In '81, REO Speedwagon was being listened to by low-riders 'cruisin main street America thanks to the popularity of Hi-Infidelity. In 1980, Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust" was #1 on the Soul chart.

Good music rises above differences. As it should be.

BTW, CPC. I read your clarification of "PC" as meaning Piece not P.C. Always thought ConversationPC as in computer was a cool take on internet chatter.

It may have been true in those days, but for me - stuff that everybody my age likes isn't doesn't thrill me. Haven't you ever liked a band that no-one else really knew about so you could have that great feeling of "They're MY band"? It secretly defines you somehow.

Yes, tonight is Kate Bush night..... the 8th of December is a special day indeed. Jim Morrison's birthday, the anniversary of John Lennon's death and it's been one year since my first video. I'm gonna sing "James and the Cold Gun".

And here's the link for Do It Again that I did last night.

And I couldn't resist putting up this picture. Kricfalusi, you hilarious perv.
