Laugh... put his fist through the wall at the mention of "rerecords"... same thing.

I finally went and looked at the new Journey website after seeing that this thread is up to 9 pages and still going...................
My undergradute degree is in Marketing and so I'm looking at the website from that perspective, not as a Loon.........even though I am a loon. At least I have some loon points below. :)
IMO the website has some pretty graphics, a well organized layout (even though some typos as previously mentioned by others). I think the way the photo gallery
is laid out is nice. You can see individual pictures of only the person you want to look at without seeing all the others in the band. There isn't really anyone that I want to look at though, because
Perry isn't in any of the pictures..........

If the band wants to position itself to its target market then it has done a good job with the website. I think they must have decided that their "target market" are young people who weren't even alive
when Perry sang with the band. Pineda is their new singer. I think they are going to try to remake Journey with new fans, using any of their former glory that's left to propel themselves forward. Just the way the bio is written focuses on current events, with an obvious effort to minimize the history (that included Perry and all the greatness that came with those years). Like all of us, our history is what makes us who we are today. The Perry legacy with Journey will never die, and the history associated with the singers who came after will always be a part of Journey too, no matter what Journey does with its website. Overall, I would give the website designer a grade of B, but the website could have been an A+ and not angered the old fans, if only the band members and website designer remembered where they came from and how they got there............... :D

It has a thousand members now. The old site had just hit 10k when it went down, I wonder if all the old board members received the new site email or got there and were so over/underwelmed they decided not to join.

Well, the graphics are pretty, but that is part of the problem. The image the band is currently promoting with the black-leather biker look is completely disjointed from the image projected by the website (floral scrolls and pretty mauves and teals) - it now has the colour scheme of my aunt's bathroon in the late 90s. The design simply isn't contemporary, cool, or particularly interesting and it does not reflect the image of a rock band. In marketing a product (like Journey) the website should reflect the product and be attractive to the target audience. If they are trying to attract teenagers and twenty-somethings this site won't do it, so it fails on both of those counts. As it has turned off many of Journey's current fans it fails there too. There is just no excuse for the multitude of typos and poorly written bios and discographies. I do like the photo section though and the guys look pretty good in the new photos. Who cares if some of it was Photoshopped? I hate to break it to the guys on the board, but they do know that every woman in a magazine is Photoshopped, right?

As for ignoring their history, if their aim is to attract a new audience by pretending they haven't been around for over 30 years, they're deluding themselves and taking quite a risk in alienating their core fanbase. It's a pointless exercise given these guys are in their 50s and 60s and they lose part of their mystique as rock legends - part of what makes Springsteen or the Stones cool is that they stay contemporary but have been rocking for decades. They have a history - they're legends. Journey should embrace that instead of ignoring it, because the legend of Steve Perry isn't going away.

Journey has missed the mark for years by catering to the casual fan instead of their core base. It is the diehards that will keep you going. They are the ones who will let you play what you want, let you stretch your wings and find a new path. They are the ones who will promote the band for free and see multiple shows and buy the stupid merchandise. The casual fan only goes to the show to hear the hits.

Probably a good idea.

I like the idea of members having their own page, a la myspace... now if they could just go the way of facebook and add some games for me like Word Challenge or Mob Wars or something, I'd be happy.

I have an idea... Journey Mob Wars. You can attack other fans, steal their autographed albums, put them on the hitlist for liking a different lead singer than you do...

Seconded; Christ the album's only Platinum but what are the Revelation designs doing on the site????? :x It needs to be about and in fact celebrate Ex members FIRST and then Journey. Mentioning said departed in bios and merely posting pix?? Not enough.

On one album cover is one thing, but given that it's all over the web pages and in combination with the colour scheme, it's a bit much. Instead of being part of the unique design of one cover, the floral scrolls are on everything on the site. I'm not saying that they should not be anywhere on their website, but unless they plan on making the floral scroll a band symbol, it's overkill.

Edit: Actually, not only do those scrolls look like the generic stencil cutouts at home renovation stores, but damn if they don't look like the scrolls on the tile trim around the sink in my bathroom. I was just staring at them 5 minutes ago.

I doubt anyone, even the most ardent Loons, would expect Journey's new website to celebrate ex-members like SP first, but the band has a 36 year history - you're a longtime fan, so you know it didn't start with Revelation. Said departed don't even have bios, which may be a good thing given the writeups the current members received. I love Journey's music and I want to see them continue and succeed and knock it out of the ballpark. So when I see another poorly executed move, it's not only disappointing, but frustrating. Journey's new website should have rocked and to me it doesn't.

It has always been my contention that Journey couldn't care less about their long-time, hardcore fanbase …too many factions …we know all their dirty laundry … can’t please everyone.

Their past members’contributions be damned, it’s all about telling new fans (and the casuals that have found their site) that this is the only Journey lineup that is relevant (today). And no message forums allowed to muck the waters!!!

As Lora said …highly predictable.
