Ooh that's SO much more exciting. 7 out of ALL the people who frequent this forum think Friga is an angel. Joe just admitted his was cast to be difficult, so actually, that's only 6 real votes. 6 or 7 people? That's it? Let's do a poll & see who thinks Perry is an angel or Jeff is an angel. I wonder what that vote count would be.

STILL not getting the sample idea...or the joke....

Anyway...according to your logic...only 21 people feel negative toward Jonathan Cain.

I fucking hate Metallica so that would be pointless. They are metal. Journey is melodic rock. Air Supply & Manilow are not getting written up on Andrew's home page now are they?

Metallica too heavy for your ears, you big girl's blouse?

And...I hate to break it to you Susie...but yes...Air Supply were a melodic rock band.

That's interesting...because before Jonathan joined the band, Journey hardly had any hits at all.

The evidence is the exact opposite of what you say....Jonathan's songwriting infused Journey's songs with hit-making potential...something Perry could not do.

 Fyre - you know I love your posts and have even defended your most obscure metaphysical ramblings - but this comment reveals a frightening detachment from reality.

Ummm...Yeah. Fyre is off his rocker on this one.

Is that it? I'm off my rocker? I don't even OWN a rocker however I do have a glider and I've yet to fall off of it.

No. I'm saying that Perry singing songs did not create many hits prior to Jonathan joining the band. Your theory of a vocal launching a song onto the charts is wrong - by Journey's own history. If it were Perry's voice that mattered so much, explain why he could not produce many top 20 hits prior to Escape?

Talk about being off a rocker.

Pre-JC JOURNEY spent 4 years building a fan base after bringing in SP. Not an easy task. JC came in after all of the tough work was done!

Furthermore, HH's plan was to create an "evergreen" catalog - lots of hits but no #1's. I agree with this because as he said, once you hit #1 then you've got nowhere to go but down. When Gregg left more control started to shift towards SP who was (along with JC) hungrier for a major hit.

Of course, the #1 hit was held off by Michale Jackson however they did manage #1 album with E5C4P3 which is held up as THE JOURNEY album of all time.

There you have it. Ultimately, E5C4P3 doesn't diminish the music that came before it. As far as Billboard standings the pre-JC music is lower however they weren't necessarily trying for high ranking hits.

HH was right and JC came in at JOURNEY's peak. I'm not diminishing his contributions at all. I'm simply saying that he didn't bring any more hit potential into the band that their previous touring and recording didn't already prime them for!

 Fyre - you know I love your posts and have even defended your most obscure metaphysical ramblings - but this comment reveals a frightening detachment from reality.

Your comments seem to say, "JSS toured for a scant few months but JC's been with them for years therefore he's more worthy of our admiration and JOURNEY's commitment." So what did you say when JC replaced Gregg Rolie? Did you not see the potential in JC or did he have to earn your admiration?

If they'd fired Jonathan Cain after eight months I would also say...thanks for the contribution but you haven't had the opportunity to earn the same affection and respect I feel for the long-standing members of the band.

And - again! - you avoid the name of the guy who disproves this claim of yours that Journey have the midas touch when it comes to nobodies. Well, that name is of course...Steve Augeri.

An interesting side-note for those who are vastly over-inflating JSS's contribution to the band - and indeed the potential of that line-up in the market and the media. The new issue of Classic Rock magazine - the biggest and most mainstream magazine about CR/AOR in the UK - devotes one tiny column to JSS' departure. And that's after they gave him a poor review in March for the live show.

I don't share the attitude of this magazine - but when I saw that tiny article yesterday it made me realise how insignificant the events which have given everyone a nervous breakdown on this forum are to most people who follow this type of music.

The Midas touch didn't work with SA because JC and NS did NOT give him the reins like they gave SP. Arrival is NOT the arrival of SA as it SHOULD have been. It's a JC/NS album with a smattering of SA.

SA was NEVER allowed to take the reins neither by JOURNEY nor the fans who demanded nothing but The Dirty Dozen.

Come on already! That's just so very clear.

Because I'm sadistic - or is it masochistic? Anyway, he has yet to experience the level of character assassination that she's laid out on me! The anticipation is killing me. I can't wait!

I'd just like to say, Matthew - you are a great sport. 8)

And you debate but don't bait.

P.S. and you did admit that JC is 'comedy gold.'
Which he certainly is. [air keyboard playing, ROR clothes - every one a gem! ]

Come now kiddies, I have been neither rude nor condescending except perhaps marginally in response to Matty Lightshoes' nasty remarks towards me.

Character assassination of u John? Hardly. I just showed u up when u were being a complete twit, that's all.

Nothing I do here could ever even come close to the capabilities of Dean, Ed, TNC, or Red13Joe anyway. Admit it boys. Then go back & play w/ur toys.

I beg to differ. I've been twit-ish but never a complete one. 8)
