I was in SF in early 96 and saw the Sy Klopps Blues Band show while there. Pat Morrow was still working for Herbie. I asked Pat about the possibility of Journey getting back together, he only said there was some talk. Of course they were already working on the album by then and Herbie was already out.

There has to be a good reason for Gregg not to have been at the HWOF when he had been at the event in SF the year before. Couldn't any gig he had could have been rescheduled, did he even have one that night.... Could the statement that no one knew Perry would be there be more official bs? The band had quite a history of official statements that were not exactly accurate.

The reunion w/Gregg and Kevin and their replacement with Perry also brought the end of Abraxas Pool. Why did Gregg and Neal not continue this side project? Especially with the resurgence of Latin music. I would think it may have cause friction between Gregg and Neal except that Neal played on a song on Roots.

The official statement was that Gregg had a scheduling conflict. But it was not a show.

I think so. Something tells me that someone had to be aware of his appearance. Maybe some were kept in the dark, or maybe it was handled as a 'he might'. Maybe everyone was told that Perry was considering appearing so be ready if he does, but that would also give him the option of not showing. So they could have informed Gregg that Perry might show and Gregg made the decision not to appear.

I often wonder if Gregg and Neal might have some issues as well. But like you said, they worked together on Roots.

I remember Neal commenting on Gregg's not being at the WOF...maybe in his interview here on MR, I don't recall. His comment seemed kind of snide/disappointed...it was something along the lines of "I guess he had something better to do than be inducted into the HWOF that day" - like I said I dont remmeber where I read it/heard it, but it struck me as Neal not being entirely happy that Gregg didnt make the time.

Yeah, but hopefully we're wrong here. I could certainly understand Gregg holding a grudge about the 94 lineup being shelved.
Neal even mentioned wanting the original lineup to do something together so I don't feel he would have anything against Gregg. How cool would it have been if the first hour of last year's shows had been Gregg, Neal, Ross, Ansley/Deen...
Jon may not have liked that idea.
