It's not that he needs help, it's just the way the band has been doing the songs for the last 8 years. It's a trade thing that Deen would do with any singer for the songs. I've heard JSS doing 4 Journey songs where he sang with the vocaless masters @ JC's studio and they were hot

Been wondering for awhile Ace, what is your relationship with Journey??

Time for another Reality Check.........Liz, a regular poster here, also attended the Tampa concert, and had a very different take than you do........So you are entitled to your own opinion, but that doesn't neccessarily mean you are the be all end all when it comes to proclaiming whether a concert was good or bad.

Liz is an upstanding poster, so I think I'll believe her. And stop attempting to cause trouble where there is none.

Ok Yak, so what specifically is an "upstanding" poster here??

Liz is....Enjoys all eras of the band and doesn't dish out shit. Only gives it back. That's not to say that not enjoying all eras of the band and being an upstanding poster are mutually exclusive but there are those that only like the Perry era w/ out bashing the Augeri or now JSS eras.

Why is giving my opinion about one concert considered bashing? I've been a JRNY fan since 1978 and have put alot of money into this bands hands, so therefore I feel I have a right to state my opinions. Love the music but don't kiss their arses and agree with everything they do.

When you start a thread that says THIS TOUR SUCKS, you are bashing. You could have called it PROBLEMS WITH JSS or ROUGH TIMES FOR THE NEW SINGER IN JOURNEY, but you went right in with SUCKS. You clearly want to influence others to not go to the show with JSS. Who would want to go if THIS TOUR SUCKS?

I read all of your 16 posts thus far. Doing that showed me that you are big STEVE PERRY fan. I guess you have your unbiased agenda, too, just like the one you claimed Gary Shutt has.

When you write something more insightful than THIS TOUR SUCKS, you will have some credibility.

I told you why I thought it sucked in the 1st post of this thread, so you did'nt read everything. Duh... my name here should have told you I am a Steve Perry fan. What's that got to do with my opinion of this tour? SP was'nt the one singing. It' the JSS fans now that cant take a little criticism, which is really funny. Now they can relate to SA fans  who I think, even as a SP fan, did a better job at JRNY's sound. I'm a realist, so if I said I thought it sucked, that's what I meant. Oh yeah, I also said that everyone should go and judge for themselves, then they would have a real opinion and we could agree or disagree.

Voice I too posted a bad review from the Bristow show! I too got bombed with the same response. It seems the only thing they want to hear is how great Soto was. If I said that I would consider myself a liar. I too noticed the lack of interaction, and the "Oh Shit" did he just miss that note looks from the band. The only ones having fun are Soto & Schon. I too give him props for trying to fill in, and I would have rather this than the show be cancelled, but if this is long term they will slowly lose all of their dedicated fans! I would guess the next album will be called "Fractured"!

YES! Finally someone who's actually seen a concert! You saw and heard exactly what I was talking about. I think JSS is a good singer, just not right for JRNY. You're right, they just all seemed to be going through the motions to me. Maybe they will improve as the tour goes along but I did'nt get what I paid big bucks for. "Fractured"- that's funny

You know, I never even HEARD about that. Thanks very much for sharing. Personally, I think it's hilarious that the band went to this extent, when they probably should have simply replaced Augeri some time before (if he was routinely that bad), as Svante Pettersson said. Hell, it didn't seem to bother anyone in the band at the time when Smith and Valory were simply and unceremoniously "let go" because (and I remember an interview with Perry commenting on that situation), it was stated afterward something to the effect that "The band was moving in a more angular musical direction." Apparently, Smith couldn't play "angular."

I also have to say that the maturity of this comment he made, speaks volumes and others can learn from it: "I'm a big Journey fan and I don't get sad or angry, just very confused." (emphasis mine)

I did not say JSS sucked, I said the tour sucked, but lets not split hairs. What bothers me the most is the lack of info coming from the band and/or publicist before the concert ( I was not reading these boards then) and not giving anyone the choice for a refund. And yes I did not like the preformance. I thought Deen did a very good job though.

First time poster!

Postby RedWingFan » Mon Jul 17, 2006 5:58 pm

Hey Everyone,
I've been reading these posts since Andrew posted the message about rumours of Journey using tapes during "live" performances.
First off let it be known being a Journey fan was passed onto me by my older brother. Him and I were also big Perry fans. I still love all the music he's recorded. Sitting with my eyes closed listening to "Sweet and Simple" on my BoseQC2's is a common occurance. The first chance I had to see Journey live was in '98 with Steve Augeri. I was already aware they were Perryless, and even the Armageddon sdtk. w/ "Remember Me" on it. I went in with a open mind and was blown away by Steve Augeri. Also was very impressed w/ the Arrival cd. I personally think it was better than Trial By Fire. That may not be saying much but that's how I hear it.
My wife and I are taking the 4 hour drive to catch the show in Indianapolis on July 22nd. Just as in '98 I am going in w/ an open mind. Burning 4hrs. worth of gas and a hotel stay I'm really hoping It'll rock my socks. I'll be sure to report back what this version delivers, even if I get hammered or not.

Being Jeff's good friend and webmaster for his media section I've been following this whole Journey-thing with him from day 1. More than anyone else I'm very much aware of Jeff's capabilities and I don't think the Atlanta bootleg is doing him any justice!
I think you all should know that Jeff's been singing EVERY week for the past 5-6 months with 'Boogie Knights' on the weekends, then blowing out his voice with sessions, the forthcoming Talisman album & his new solo stuff... and then Journey flew him over to stand in for Augeri who got ill!
Although concert reviews are great, the 2 weeks of recharge he gets at the end of this month will make him go on even stronger!... wait and see!

Now why do you still have an agenda..........? And why not contribute something positive for a change? You're starting to sound like Lori.

I'm new here so just a question Yak; what is a "loonbrigade"? You accussed me of being a "loon" the 1st day. Is it because I'm a SP fan? If so thats sad because every JRNY fan I would think would be a fan of SP at least at some point. So why all the attacks? Could that be your agenda? I for one cant think of any reason for an "agenda". Thought everyone here is just a Jrny fan with opinions

No, the 'loons' are the Perry fans who remain stubbornly "loyal" to him no matter what he says and does. "It's not Journey without Steve Perry" and "cracked the stone" are their favorite phrases.
