Umm...No, not necessarily. You may be able to make an average singer sound better but a truly bad singer will still sound like a bad singer.[/quote]

Thanks - I won't quit my day job!!

Why should it get credit? It's an average song at best.

Journey is about superb vocals, and sadly, there haven't been any for the last 3-4 years.

One of the better songs since Augeri joined the band, in my opinion and perhaps my second favorite after "Livin' to Do".

What's THAT tell you? Augeri should never have tried to play on this level. He knows it too.

If anyone could go back into some of the threads of the old Augeri board, you would notice that this is what a lot of the fans tried to say at the time Augeri first joined Journey. I remember someone posting that he should try to bring his own voice and style to the band but he was never allowed to do this.

he was kinda screwed no matter what he did on that. Try to me his own voice and some would say that is not Journey. Try to be a Perry clone and well he is a Perry clone and nothing more...Should have done the first a lot more, and he would still have his voice-ERIC

This is a good topic. You are making good points. The thing that confuses the hell out of me, is that Neal was constantly yearning to bust out and rock a little more in Journey. So they get a guy like Augeri, who was singing in Tall Stories, a band Neal thought sounded like a "rocked out Journey." Great! And Augeri sounds good on that disk, I dont care what anybody says, and that is a smoking album.

So WHY, they said, "hey man, don't be rockin out in here, like we always wanted, instead try and sound like Perry." Stupid! First, he never did sound like Perry to me, and second, he sounded a whole lot better singing the way he did on Tall Stories. If he sang that way, I don't know about having his voice or not, but Journey would have sounded better and fresher than they did these eight years.

He could sound like Perry pretty good, but yea no one can really get there. I like his voice on his Journey cds. But needed more of a Tall Stories feel to it. Arrival was like it was becasue of the record company. I think they were too scared to get away from the Perry feel-ERIC

I don't think Augeri sounded like Perry at all. Not really the same range as Perry, or vocal tone. Sure he could do some of Perry's licks, but thats too superfical. You're right about the "Perry feel" thing, but that's where they fucked up because it never did have a Perry feel. Its weird, as if the band and management did know what a Perry feel was themselves after all these years!

Honestly, nothing is worse than Journey when they try to sound like Journey. They should just BE Journey, thats better.

too true. Hopefully if Augeri comes back, or Jss takes over, they will do what they want. Just hope Jss will becable to produce enough Perryism in his vocals to give it some of a Journey feel. Thta is my only doubt on Jss, but he is a great songer and performer-ERIC

HUGO IS THE ANSWER

Postby mack » Thu Aug 17, 2006 9:44 pm

If they want a great substitue until Augeri gets better, why don't they give HUGO a tryout.
As great a singer as Soto is, he is not right for this band.
At least give the fans the sound they want until Steve can come back. It will make for a great show.
HUGO is definitely the guy for this, he is doing a Journey tribute band now. Check out his website at journeyshow.com
It would be a story just like the movie Rockstar, guy gets to live out a dream.
(Soto could appreciate a story like that)

BTW, it has been intimated that HUGO does not want that kind of gig anymore. He likes to stay close to home...

Jon and Neal didn't hire a guy who sounded like chaffed ass right from the start.
His voice took a licking from singing the Journey catalog night after night.
Rein it in.

If JSS happens to give up this dream job, there are plenty of other top tier candidates out there.
Hugo is not even in the running.

Listen to the earlier boots of him. They're great.

Agreed. Saw them in 2002 from the side of the stage in Toronto when I worked for the Doors. His voice was fine.
