Oh GOD! Tapegate II!

;)

Yeah, the other version of the video I saw didn't sound like that.

Maybe if there was some activity from Styx....

Jeez, their website doesn't even get updated much anymore.

Speaking of Perry, did you guys download the Atlanta boot that was posted a few weeks ago? That's the roughest I've heard Perry's voice, but with the songs in the lower keys, he still pulls it off. His pitch is great, just really raspy.
He'd change vocal parts, but he was so good that that it didn't matter. To reach for a note and sound strained and miss the pitch (to me) is worse than changing the melody line to accommodate a hurting throat.

Is there a posting of Perry's tour dates anywhere? I'd be curious to know how many shows he was doing in a row, etc.

If you notice, in anything Perry sang 1995-current, he has a raspy sound in his voice when he attempts to hit high notes. He just can't hit the notes he used to be able to when he was young. I don't blame him for not want to go out with Journey and make a fool of himself attempting to sing Open Arms and Don't Stop Believin. It would be a tragedy if he did. Steve wants his great legacy to remain intact. More power to him. I've got Journey's entire CD collection whenever I want to hear him.

This is Uncle Joe Benson's response to an emailed question from someone at BT: regarding the status of Steve Perry's voice:

Quote:

"...Having sat within six feet of Perry singing in a recording studio within the last 10 months, I know his voice is (and pitch) is as good as anytime since the mid-Eighties....Rock on!

Joe Benson"

Hi- I sent the email to Uncle Joe. I asked for a one word answer. Was it true that he (Uncle JOE) sat 6 ft away from Perry,in the studio in the last 10 months and that he sounded like the mid 80's. His answer YUP ! At this point I don't care if Steve hums,or what key, for that matter. I think many feel that there is unfinished business for him,the band and the fans

Exactly what I'm thinking.
I don't think he could gain his old voice back, but then I could be wrong. Does anyone know a singer who got his range back after he partially lost it with age?

Cheers
