Or we demand the classic JRNY lineup of

Steve Smith
Greg Rollie
Ross Valory
Jon Cain
Neal Schon
Steve Perry.

That is what we should get behind.
And that would blow away the music buisness
No more copying its the real deal.

That lineup never existed, so how can you call it classic?

Well NIG I thought you were going to stop following me
But if you must
These are the members of the 2 classic lineups
We put em together and most everyone would be blown away except our new JSS groupies.

Don't flatter yourself. I just respond to you because you are always wrong. Plus you aren't keeping up your end of the deal.

Did you know Perry is retired and not interested in singing in Journey? Does that matter to you?

If you'll recall, back when Augeri first toured with Journey people accused him of stealing everything from Perry under the sun.
His on-stage moves, his style of dress, his voice etc. - u name it.

Some of it prolly had some merit, too.

The point is, emulating Perry in the beggining is near impossible to avoid.
Perry is so inextricably intertwined in Journey's music that it's hard not to pay tribute to some varying degree (be it conciously or not).

If Jeff seems in any way derivative at the moment, I'm sure it will pass.

You know, for caring about Perry's involvement in the band so much, you obviously could care less about him...What if he really doesn't want to do it again...Fans like your self are the reason he wont come out with any solo work, your too obsessed with him in Journey to move past it and recognize them (SP and Journey) as two seperate entities.

Augeri recieved flack for being too Perry-esque when he initially started interpreting the Journey songs.
That changed over time.

Now Jeff is at the recieving end of similar criticisms.

Like I said, emulating Perry is inevitable when ur on-stage singing Perry-era Journey music.
Conciously or not, it's bound to happen to varying degrees.

Give JSS a while longer to definatively carve out his own on-stage niche (sounds like he is already on his way).

......................................

But thery are not two seperate entities. They have tried to break away from "The Steve Perry Years" and since any new vocalist feels that he has to emulate the man in order to be accepted, they are simply a Steve Perry tribute band.

Maybe Soto's on-stage niche will be falling on his ass now and again. That will be a start toward originality, Noble.

Not really. It doesn't have to be anything that I like. Lot's of folks claim that they liked SS. Claimed it was terrific. Le's give it a test.

That reply makes no sense whatsoever....none. Fact is, your two posts, within minutes of each other, were completely contradictory.

Monker wrote:Well, since you're not 'naming names', I don't know if you are talking about me or not. I'm not trying to say he is a "Perry clone", as Hugo. All I am saying is he DOES sing those songs as they would be from 1984. He does LESS to differentiate himself from Perry then Augeri did. That is how I hear it, and my opinion.

I wasn't referring to you, but since you wanted to jump in and take the guilt, then I will allow you to.

Monker wrote:He may sing like JSS, and Augeri sung like Augeri. The difference is that Augeri added his own adlibs, instead of using Perry's. Augeri may have 'lipped' to the 2001 DVD, but it didn't sound like it came from the Houston 81 DVD. THAT is what I am saying.

Neither do any of JSS's performances sound like they come from Houston 81. There are huge differences.

Monker wrote:Oh, please, where were you when people were ripping Augeri a new hole? What is being said about JSS is VERY mild compared to that.

"YOU PEOPLE" referring to me, NEVER dumped on Augeri, so don't start making things up you have no proof about. If you can show me a post, a link where I have dumped on Augeri, then I'll give you a crisp new $100 bill.

Monker wrote:He may be 'just another poster' here but he's also on tour with Journey. Whether you, or he, likes it or not, he's going to be critiqued. That's just comes with the job. If he can't handle these words, then why does he even come here? Frankly, I don't see him having much of a problem with it...so, WHY DO YOU?

Because it's a free forum board and I can have a problem with it if I so desire. I don't believe you have the balls to stop me from doing so. All I commented on was the fact that I find it interesting how some no name nobody can think that he/she/it with no musical talent could accuse someone who obviously has talent and has proven it by singing for Journey of being a clone or a copycat. While I'm sure JSS sings the Journey songs with a little bit of Perry traits added on, that doesn't mean he's a clone. For the record, I don't believe I ever stated Augeri was a clone of Perry....in fact, I didn't have to. Journey's own drummer pretty much stated the case in a VH1 interview. But, the only reason why anybody would ever think that JSS is trying to copy someone, is the fact that he IS able to hit all those high notes that Perry and Augeri have been able to hit...yet his voice isn't a "Perry" voice.

I stand corrected on that one and apology to you Monker. So, to answer your question where was I when people were saying the samething about Augeri...as I stated earlier...Deen C. himself pretty much said Augeri was "Steve Perry with a perm." If members of Journey are making statements like that themselves, then how can one outside of Journey be making the argument that he wasn't trying to "clone" himself as Perry?

....and just for the record, I'm not bashing Augeri. I loved the Augeri era stuff and always will, regardless of how that era ended. However, I think the biggest reason why I did in fact love that era was that Augeri was quite close to Perry in voice. Now, I'm really digging this lineup with JSS because Jeff's voice is NOT like Steve Perry. When I listen to a song from JSS on one of his CDs, I hear Soto...not Perry...I think Jeff brings to the table his own style, yet LIKE Perry, can cover many styles of music. It's merely my own opinion, but I believe Jeff has more to give to Journey than Augeri.
