It makes absolutely no sense for a veteran politician with '08 aspirations to pull a 180 and start unleashing on soliders while campaigning for a colleague to get elected.

Well, Kerry isn't exactly the sharpest knife in the proverbial drawer now is he? If he really is just joking about President Bush, he needs to keep in mind that Bush's grades were at least equal and, if I remember correctly, slightly better than his at Yale, a school they both attended at approximately the same time. I guess Kerry needs to learn his history a bit better, eh?

Yale grades portray Kerry as a lackluster student
His 4-year average on par with Bush's

No, the mantra is Bush is dumb.
The guy wasnt even aware of the warring factions present (Shiite, Sunnis, Kurds) before sending the troops on a one-way trajectory to oblivion.

Yeah, but you know that the Bush tax cuts only benefitted the top 1% of wage earners and the tax burden fell to the poor and middle class.
[/sarcasm]

I'm firmly ensconched in the middle class and my tax rate definitely went down with the Bush tax cuts, not to mention a nice little tax rebate we got in the mail that year. Boy, that was really a bad thing.

Sorry, folks, but there's a grain of truth in what Kerry said, even if he misspoke or botched the joke by leaving out one word... A LOT of the kids in the military are mediocre-grade high school graduates looking to make something of themselves after graduation and most of you all know that... I think Kerry could have been less clumsy with his joke, but I forgive him; after all, he is a vet himself... Before you come after me to ride me off this board on a rail, we have one son who left for Afghanistan 3 weeks ago, so be careful!! :)

(I believe my stepson would qualify as one of the kids I described above...)

There are some who fall under that designation but I would be willing to bet that many of those end up dropping out of the military ASAP because they can't hack it. Regardless, they're certainly not the mindless mirmadons that Kerry makes them out to be.

I LISTENED to Kerry's comment last night and I think he just blurted out "... they will end up in........ IRAQ!" I was more shocked that he would BLOW it like that right before the elections than what he said... I think he honestly feels that way (as I do), but he's allowed because he is a VETERAN!! Sorry, but Bush and Cheney and those others are elitists--you all must know that!! (And yes, I know Bush was in the National Guard, or whatever...) I just hope Kerry's comment doesn't have any effect because I am looking forward to hopefully turning out some of these goofy Republicans from Congress!!

Hey, and thanks ever so much you guys for the support for my son; we don't know anything about where he is or what he is doing, etc., but he said he has never been so HOT and he is from central Texas....

That picture made my day, LOL!

Kerry can try to spin this all he wants, but his meaning was clear. I've heard too many liberals spew this exact same sentiment -- people who join the military are just too dumb to do anything else. Kerry is an elitist snob who has been anti military since he left Vietnam with his video camera.

Democrats and Republicans are indeed equally stupid, MOST of the time. Not just the Politicians either.

There's not ONE honest politician out there anymore. Not one that is doing their job for YOUR best intrests.

Let's give a small example. A former neighbor of mine several years back ran for and was elected mayor of our small town, he had ideas on becoming governor of our state eventually, and frankly at the time I thought he could do it. I knew his family very well, still do. Ok, so maybe I didn't know HIM as well as I thought I did. He got stupid and started messing around with another woman, he had a beautiful and loyal (too loyal?) wife at home along with 6 kids. OOOPS! So much for the political career. So much for any respect your former friends had for you...

According to a study that I heard about on the radio today (and I haven't verified this) the average member of our military has more education and comes from a higher average income than does the average American citizen. I wouldn't be so quick to think that they are "trade school" rejects.

I'm curious--what do you think will happen when/if the draft is reinstated? Who do you think will get drafted? And, by that I mean, do you think kids in college or college graduates already in the workforce will be drafted first? I hate this war, and I have a feeling it is going to drag on for a while... How long can these guys that are being rotated in and out of Afghanistan and Iraq take it? It makes me feel sick with worry for our young guys...

I think about this as often as I think about a 2 mi. asteroid smashing into Earth. If either political party ever thought about reinstating it, they'd banish themselves to the minority for decades. It'll never happen.

As opposed to which war that you loved???? Everyone hates war, some see the necessity of it. While others insist on negotiating with those who want us dead.
