Haven't seen that

It's an audio file. Wish I still had it. Maybe someone can search for it?

Don't look now, either but The General is going to pass Dean Smith before New Years.

Another testament to his greatness. If he cannot motivate he couldn't win! If I remember correctly, and I do, he had a perfect season while winning the championship. Is he hard? You bet! If not pushed people tend to be mediocre. Deano is right, playing at this level is a much more intense situation. No drugs, no booze, no cheating, a high graduation rate and a sincere feeling of support and love for the kids.

Likening a college basketball coach to abused women is stupid! If he was pounding kids he would be out of the game long ago. His verbal tirades are just that. I can name many like him who NEVER get the press Bob does. Why? They don't win consistently.

Huggins, Cheney, Richardson, Lute Olsen and on and on! Coach K, Alford, and many others in the game are Knight proteges! His abuse certainly has harmed Coach K to no end it would seem! DUH!

What he doesn't tolerate are lazy, class cutting, I am a star behavior. If anyone has worked with the lazy, priveleged people you know how harmful those people are to an environment. The coach keeps it real, teaches work ethic, dedication and citizenship! You don't see Bob's kids turning out like the Cincinatti Bengals do ya? There's a reason! Self Respect & Esteem! More kids need it!

Hey Red I met Joey Pa. He actually is a great friend of my step sister's husband's family. He is a great guy. He got us some great seats over the years. I went to see Penn ST vs Alabama at Sugar Bowl, Penn ST vs. Notre Dame at Gator Bowl, Notre Dame vs USC (green jersey day), and the final game of the Phillies World Series victory along with many other Irsh, Pirates, Cubs, & Phillies games all compliments of Joe!

My step brother made his trip to the weddding memorable for all of us including Joe. He was driving Joe and a few Penn ST players & Alum up the wall as he was quite hyper. He was standing near Joe and when the waitress brought JOe and creew some drinks, she held them high in the air over her head to be sure the kid didn't knock them out of her hands. Instead the idiot ran right into her and she dropped all the drinks on the table at once soaking Joe & friends. Now if you want to talk about a near death experience? He almost had one courtesy of my father and the groom's father! I'll remember that Voice for as long as live too! LOL!

I agree. See the sensationalism and ignorance in the judging of a man calling him a woman beater etc. How would you like your character assasinated like this? Also, I bet there are many parents on here who have put their child's chin in their hands and asked them to listen and look at them when they are talking. Then again, I am sure they won't admit it given the characterization of this incident and then leading to equating this man with woman beating.

It's generally not the guys with openly overt behaviors that beat women. It's the fake, mousy types! They hide their true self and beat the woman behind closed doors portraying an "image" to the rest of the world!

Bobby is a great guy and very compassionate. He has churned thousands of kids through basketball camps with no complaints. If you handle a million kids there will be a few arses that require a shirt jerk. The pompeous little asses who think the world revolves around them. Look you will see their parents on the roads in their SUV's running through and across the lanes of traffic with no regard to others' safety. It will be the ones who elbow their way in front of you going in the stores etc... These are the people who need their reality brought to them face on, not guys educating and creating successful, respectful citizens. Ever heard of Landon Turner? If not, look him up and see what he says about Mr Knight!

When you put it that way, it makes me think Knight WAS wrong. I would never do that to my kid. It was more than just putting his chin in his hand. The kid's head snapped up, so Knight "tapped" it with some force.

WOW! Daltonsdad is it? Makes me think I'm glad you aren't my dad, with the mentality you are showing. This wasn't some simple holding the chin up to PAY ATTENTION, this was assault. Too bad the NCAA is behind Knight on this. You don't hit a student if you are a teacher or a coach. PERIOD! To justify Knight's actions is to justify violence for any reason a person deems necessary, to get someone's attention.

It's funny you talk about the "kids" being the pompous little asses that think the world revolves around them, when Knight is in fact one that thinks the world revolves around him. There's many ways to motivate a kid to win, Knight doesn't exactly do it in a way that is acceptable to 90+% of the people responding in this thread. It's clear you don't care that people think it's wrong, just as it's clear people don't think it's right.

Because he is the best.

I love how all you who think he is "mean" and "out of control" probably never played competitive sports at this level. It's fucking insane and I would LOVE to play for Bob Knight. I know I would be a better player and man because of him.

It is absolutely no suprise that you would condone Knight's behavior! Maybe YOU would be a better man because of him.

I'm not sure that's true at all. While they might not be "overt" in their behavior in public, it tends to be obvious in other ways that they have very a very controlling demeanor when you see them with their spouse or significant other. Usually, it's the woman who is the "mousy" one when she's with the guy because if she "steps out of line in public," she knows what's coming in private.

I once saw a guy drive up in his jeep. My wife and I were eating at a patio restuarant. It was obvious that the couple was arguing. As soon as he stopped at the parking lot stop sign, the woman jumped out. He glanced over at all of us "eaters," then told the woman to get in the jeep. She did (with fear written all over her face) and then he slapped her and drove off. All of us were dumbfounded and it happened so quickly, no one thought to get the license plate.

I'm sure Bobby might be a great guy off court, but there is NO excuse for his aberrant behavior ON COURT. Whether he's a wife beater or not (and likely isn't), is not the issue. He's a big enough jerk on court to warrant him being banned from ANY coaching job.

People often get brow beaten by a guy like Knight so that it almost becomes hero worship, which I think is the case for many of those people who say that they'd play on any team Knight ever coaches. They view his miscreant behavior as THEIR fault; they DESERVE it. If they did things better, he wouldn't NEED to do what he does. Too many women say that very same thing about the guy who beats the crap out of them time after time.

The more I think about this, the more I can’t believe any self respecting individual with any knowledge of Bobby Knight’s history of violence can just write it off.

Yeah, maybe the Michael Prince chin slap wasn’t that terrible, but look at the past history. Whether it was kicking his son’s chair, choking Neil Reed, or any other assorted temper tantrums, he is WRONG! Just because he has won doesn’t give him exemption from accountability for his actions.

Sperryfan: Thanks!

Moose: Knight reminds me of a big kid, who when he doesn't get his way throws a MAJOR tantrum. We don't put up with that from kids in the sandbox and we should put up with in adults that much less.

I still haven't got to see the incident although I have been searching all day/night. It seems even the guys at ESPN think what he did was all in the game and of no offense. If you have ever played sports at a level higher than little league, it gets more intense with each year. I have seen kids grabbed by the chin so many times from 9th grade on I cannot count them. Maybe that is why I think it is no big deal. It didn't kill me either.

What did sports teach me. How to value teamwork, live with discipline, and approach everything I do with dedication. Did I hate being criticized at the time, you bet but listening to them made me a better player and I made every all star team I was ever eligible for! I had my 9th grade basketball coach throw the ball at me! lol! I am alive and kicking! Doing quite well I might add!

Neli Reed! LOL! I am not even going there! LOL!

Obviously, sports at a higher level require discipline and commitment. That is not in question. The point is, you can be a disciplinarian as a coach without being physically abusive. I’ve seen a few folks here throw around your argument about playing at a higher level.

I know how far I went, and I played for easy going coaches and disciplinarians.
Learned a lot from everyone. I am not talking about being criticized here. Physical abuse is different. I had a high school varsity baseball coach throw at my head in batting practice! I am alive, and doing quite well myself! That didn’t excuse the behavior. (He later apologized, but that’s beside the point)

You think the Reed thing back in ’97 was a joke? You must be messed up!
