Why does a picture of a man petting a cat make him less masculine? To me, it shows a man cares about these glorious creatures. He also may understand women a bit better than a guy who is into dogs. Cats demand attention when they want it, like to be left alone when they're feeling that way, only the best food is acceptable, they like their exquisite beauty to be admired, they are very playful when they're in the mood, but they're moody, & most of all, they can be catty, especially when u put 2 females together. Great training for dealing w/a woman, no?

And as much as Perry rocks my world, I have to admit.....that isn't one of my fav pics of him (think it's his haircut and face expression). :)

Seriously, though, I love cats. I like dogs okay but I hate the ones that slobber all over you and can't stay out of your face. Makes me want to rip out their tongues.

I never cared for that pic either and for the same reasons.

I'm not really a cat person but I think being kind to animals is a sign of a sensitive, caring man.

I had many worse to choose from......

My wife had a cat. When she put it to sleep I partied. Miserable excuse for an animal. Fat 30 lb piece of shit and it was nasty mean. Rot in animal hell!!!!!!!

My brother and his girlfriend actually do have a nice cat, but it acts more like a dog.

Couldn't agree more. Especially with the part of your statement I underlined. As far as them going in the direction of YES or RUSH, that is not something I personally would want from Journey. If I want to listen to something that sounds like Rush I will listen to Rush, ditto that for Yes. I agree that Journey needs to change a bit, but it still has to sound like Journey. I am not saying that I wouldn't like the music if it sounded like Soul Sirkus for example. I really liked the SS cd, but if they are going to sound like SS just call the band Soul Sirkus. And as far as a surprise goes, I really would not want to live thru another surprise like ROR. JMHO.

SF - I wasn't suggesting that Journey copy Yes or Rush. My point was that they should show a similar willingness to experiment and express the full range of their musicianship - instead of sticking to a pop/rock formula that's twenty years out of date.

Also - Journey doesn't just have one 'sound' (and nor do Yes or Rush). From the mid-70s on Journey have played in wide a range of styles and kept their identity throughout. The trouble is...they stopped evolving a long time ago.

It's not his job to articulately describe the creative process.

I had dogs all my life and didn't really think cats were cool enough. We now have 1 dog and 4 cats and it's pretty cool to see how each cat has its own personality. Cats are much more intelligent than dogs.

I think Perry simply looks relaxed in the photo, but I have to say that hairstyle really doesn't do him any good, in my opinion. Glad he lost it. :)

How so? We have 2 dogs and 3 cats. Both dogs understand a lot of commands and do what I tell them. The cats don't do anything. How are they smarter? Not arguing, just would like to know why your cats are smarter than mine.

You gave the answer already.
Cats don't do anything because they are smart. They get food, shelter and petting for doing nothing.
For all these things dogs have to work much harder. That's what makes them less smarter than the cats.

I've had smart dogs and cats, and also both that were dumb as a box of hair.(And left a few boxes on the furniture when they wouldn't learn to stay off of it. :x ) They just demonstrate their intelligence, or lack of it, in different ways.

I've got a chow/shepard mix right now that's so smart it's scary sometimes. He tries his best to talk when he's not getting his message across in the normal dog ways. The one thing he won't learn is not to try to get rid of people or other animals who aren't members of his pack. He loved his cat before she died though. It used to be adorable seeing that snow white cat sleeping curled up next to that huge jet black dog.

Dogs are smart enough to be trained.
Cats are smart enough to not let you train them.
Dogs think you're their master.
Cats think they're your master.

Cats just do their own thing and adhere to their own agenda regardless.

Just the way they roll and it's kinda cool.

My wife's cat learned REAL fast who it's fucking master was. Cats sometimes crawl into baby cribs and kill them. That may be their only redeeming quality.

I don't even have the slightlest concern about that. JSS' vocal stylings are enough of a departure from the Perry/Augeri sound that the new identity thing will almost happen by default.

The cool part is that when feels like it he can inject songs studio or live with the Perry feel.

Very true JoePa...on both counts.

As someone not very familiar with SA, does SA actually have a sound??? I was under the impression that his main purpose in life was to sound as much like SP as he could in order to kinda convince the general public that Journey was still the Journey they were familiar with. Even the way JoePa stated it above makes that seem like the case. While it's true JSS has a different vocal styling, he still has a lot of Perryisms that remind the listener how great SP was.

It seems to me that JSS is like a chameleon, who is able to change his 'color' based on what he's singing and who he's singing to. From Journey to Queen to Prince to Steel Dragon. And he nails it each time!!! THAT'S what makes him such an incredible performer, IMO. :)

I think you're right on all counts. Augeri never had a sound that was distinctively his own and I thinik that was by design. Jeff will just automatically combine the Soto vocal sound with the Journey music sound and it'll still be Journey but with a distinctive vocal sound again. Not like Perry, but with a few Perryisms as a tribute to the Master, and a lot stronger and more distinctive sound than Augeri.
