I found it quite interesting to learn that Neal plays through so many different amps live...at the
same time! You have the Hiwatts sure, but you're also hearing the Diezel, Cyber Twin, GT6 etc....
He must be taking up like 6 or 8 channels on the mixer board!

At the end of the day, it's his hands that make the music tho.

Some great knowledgable folks over there with alot of great
info; there are 2-3 threads there right now regarding Neal's tone.
Not to mention that Alan, owner of Banannas Music shop
and Neal's main gear supplier posts there and always has
some cool info to share...
For example, someone asked "what kind of Strats is
Neal using on this tour?"

Alan's reply:

"The current Strat's Neal is using are the Eric Johnson strats.
Custom made pickups for Fender.
Just a fun note: Neal went thru almost 13 different EJ strats to pick his 4 fav.
One white, one red, two black, two Sunburst
and yes it is ALWAYS fun to have Neal here trying out gear."

Ironic that you would quote that response from Alan because he was responding to my question that I had about that (I use a different "handle" over there.) Castles Burning is the only forum that I post on
"over there"anymore.

I thought it sounded like NS used some pedal steel during the studio version of Believe...

I've noticed a difference in his tone as the years have gone by, but believe that it's largely due to using different amp/guitar combinations. I really prefer his tone from the pre SP era through Departure.
They obviously use a track for the opening to Higher Place, but he doesn't need any more help than that.

ALOT of knowledge to be shared there, that's for sure :)

Could you imagine being someone like Neal where you can just
go in, jam away on 13-14 guitars priced at 4-5k apiece and then
choose your 4-5 faves...
Lucky fucker :D

Well, not really. Lately, I've been mostly trying to find a Brian May-ish tone to be honest.

I did a solo for one of my old band's songs that reminded me of Neal though.

I thought it sounded like something he might play. Here it is if you wanna give it a listen.

My XT (bean) was new then and I wasn't nearly as experienced with it then as I am now, so it does sound kinda digital and fake. Is sounding much better now that I've had some time to tweak it and play around with it.

I really enjoyed reading this thread,I love tech talk. 8)

Sometime ago,I posted this link, maybe some of you would like to watch it.(or see it again)

http://www.schonmusic.com/multimedialist-frame.asp/type_9#

Neal should upload the next parts,or film them, now that he stoped touring.
I remember he said something about making this a series thing, which would be great for all the guitar savvys out there.

That would be great if he'd make it a series. I'd love to see him go through his solos and teach everybody how to play them. A Neal Schon instructional dvd is long overdue I might add.

Again with the "lip" remarks. You've said EMPHATICALLY that you've "moved on" regarding this issue and that so should everyone else but then you turn around and take shots like this and contradict yourself - over and over and over again.

What's with this "come correct" stuff. So in order for you to be friends with someone they must first meet some imposed conditions? Weren't you just recently crying about BT placing conditions on that so-called heart-felt apology you posted?

These constant contradictions are truly amazing.

I like to shop Ebay so just goofing around and looked up Neal Schon guitar and one came up with a starting price of $19,000.00, Buy It Now $35,000.00... It says, "buy a piece of rock history." Holy smokes!! Is that normally what a guitar sells for?

You must be at Bananna's looking at Neal's Private Stock.
Those are all one-of-a-kind pieces that were owned and played by
the Master himself.
There's no price listed but the Strat used to record Lights
is there too...
THAT would be a grand item to add to a collection :)

I posted a thread on this topic at the Castles Burning a few months back...
http://www.journeymusic.com/ubb/Forum5/HTML/000024.html

If you're serious, read thru it...
There are a few folks, specifically NSBlues, that have Schon guitars
that they would be willing to sale. Some of the prices I got sent to me
ranged anywhere from 2-4k...
I just don't hav ethat kind of cash to blow on another guitar :(

LOL! It was funny because I was going to comment about how you'd be the first to respond to this as you're Deano's personal hit man!

I crack myself up!

Absolutely NOTHING you said has any credibility or relevance to my post. The constant talk about moving on...what the HELL are you babbling about? Honestly? It's the same old canned response...blah, blah, blah...

You obviously did NOT understand my post.

I got a question on Neal and his guitars...

I didn't pay attention much on this tour but did anyone
notice if Neal was swapping out guitars alot during their sets?
I know he swaps between the LPs and Stats for specific tunes but I'm more
curious about swapping the LPs out alot.

Does he use any alternate tunings?

Nowadays most guitarist are using a bunch of crazy tunings
to simplify things or come up with crazy progressions...
Hell, watch the Goo Goo Dolls Live; that fucker
Reznick swaps his guitar out for every song.
i hate trying to learn his shit because 90% of Goo tunes
has its own specific tuning.
The way they are tuned, you could pretty much play them with 2 fingers.

It just says so much about Neal's playing if he sticks with standard all the time.
Not only is he always coming up with incredible riffs, runs and progressions
but he makes it look so damn easy

yea bud,, i think neal is in standard 440 all the time.. some of bad english was tuned to Eb... it makes me wonder is some of soul sirkus might be drop D , ive never sit down and learned those songs,, but they have a hard edge,, i bet he messed with the drop D some..i bet jeremeys guitar player has all those ansewers.. that dude had to learn a huge cataloge!!! ... as far as neal swaping out guitars.. he always seems to have the black beauty with the notch worn out where his pinky hangs!!
