I kinda got that feeling too. I think Jewel would be a better judge of singing talent.

Not that the "talent" last night was very good - they really ramped up the pitiful factor this year - but did it seem to anyone else that Jewel was a little arrogant?

Yeah, but she looks Goooooood.

Paula seemed out of it most of the time. Didn't contribute much at the auditions. Just agreed with Simon every time.

Tonight looks like it will be a real freak show.

I swear to God, it looks like they have a midget with Crozet's disease on tonight - The dude that Simon said should be wearing a mask and living in the rain forest. Next thing you know, they'll start bringing out quadraplegics and throwing beer cans at their wheelchairs saying, "Let's see you dance, motherfucker, you want to be an idol, right?"

I thought it seemed like she was taking it a little more seriously than celebrity judges usually do. It was as if she was trying to be a serious judge of talent rather than an entertaining one.

You make a point, Jeremy. Their ratings are good enough...do they now have to take their humilitation factor to new lows?... :x

I like Jewel okay, but she added absolutely nothing last night, unless you're a guy who thinks she's hot. Randy was meaner than usual. And Simon seemed nicer than usual. None of his usual "airport lounge singer" type comments.

Cowardly Lion/Chewbacca Girl was the only one that was funny and she was just pathetic with her begging.

And the thing about Chris Daughtry is yeah he was kind of a one trick pony when it came to how he sang the songs BUT he was able to change his voice up a bit. That "rocker" kid last night sang in the same monotone way all the way through every song he attempted. He's gonna blow his throat out forcing it like that.

People like the Apollo Creed guy and the juggler just HAVE to know that they won't get through performing like that. And then the families consoling them with the "you will be a star" talks.

Jewel didn't contribute much, you're right, but then she was there simply to promote her new "album". It must be nice not to have to actually work to promote something, just go in AI, get your free publicity in, and get out.

As much as I felt for the kid, the guy that had to run out and find an ABBA song was hilarious! Jesh, it sounded like Phil Anselmo sings DANCING QUEEN...quite humorous...
and yeah..Jewel is way hot and should just bounce Paula Abdul's high ass right off the show...

I hardly ever watch. Why do people watch train wrecks? This show is not about music, but about selling high $ commercials. I may watch the last 2 weeks. How long has this show been on and how many have made it big except Kelly and the ones that went country?Winning American Idol means nothing unless someone like David Foster or Clive Davis or some big writer brings you music.

Haha, that Journey part was sweet. When Paula asked Randy what he thought, she's all, "Wait... you played bass--" "Yeah, I WAS in the band..."
"They won't take me. They won't break me."

I thought that was a new low even for Simon. There was enough to ridicule about that kid's performance without making a crack like that about appearance.

I thought the kid that sung Open Arms started out weak, but he got better when he really opened up at the end. It's always nice to see Journey get some recognition.
