"Beth" is a shit stain of a song. Criss couldn't write, play, or sing. I love Kiss live, but they're a bunch of no-talents. The stage show is second to none, though.

They are a bunch of escapees from Jerry's short bus. "Hey, let's all put on white make-up, and platform shoes, get some lights and fake it!" Um, you guys suck.

Let's keep poking Ed with a stick until he posts again.

Scorpions NIG..winds of..? Yep that's the first one

That was written after the wall came down, about 8 years too late to be considered the first.

I think Journey's first "power ballad" was Faithfully. Open Arms didn't have "power" it was just a ballad. You need more drums and guitar....hence the "power" part.

Wrong.

If you listen to Open Arms, it does have some chops, and a omni guitar chord. OA live sounded really powerful when Perry sang it, and then again with Deen.

Journey pioneered it, then Dennis DeYoung heard it, pulled down his pants and started to feed the geese....and fed em until he wrote Babe....Then Kevin Cronin, also heard and he already had his cock in his femenine hands and he shot a ballads load worth all over the music sheet and you had Can't Fight this Feeling. Then of course BA got into the act and wrote the biggest song ever, Everything I Do, I do it for You.

Journey not only pioneered it, but perfected it. It haunts them to this day.

Babe? What about Lady? That was years before any of these songs mentioned.

Thinking about it..Open Arms has to be credited with being the first power ballad...Keagy was correct all along. Sister Chritian No 2, that song is fuckin' A1.

Sorry if I missing the logic here...but why is Sister Christian No 2? Wasn't it released in 1984?

There were loads of power ballads before then....not least In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins and Waiting For A Girl Like You by Foreigner...both released in 1981...

And does - say - Music by John Miles and No Regrets by Scott Walker from '75 and Stay With Me Til' Dawn by Judy Tzuke from '79 count as power ballads? I'd say they do....

That was a unnecessarily defensive, Styxman...it was just a straightforward question...not a personal attack...

Was just unsure whether you were saying it was the second PB ever recorded? Or the second best one in terms of quality?

Then in 1976 Nazareth released "Love Hurts."
