Sammy was a special guest at the Cardinals game tonight. he's HUGE here in STL, and playing that special show Acoustic tomorrow night so why not come in early, right?

Anyway, ran into him at the stadium, and after telling how we loved him, I asked about Journey, and whether you want to take my word or not, his response was, "what a fuckin' mess". Sammy doesn't like to mince his words.

Assuming this is true, then that just shows what a tital wave Journey has caused throughout the industry. You dont piss on a guy thats worked with practically everyone in the business and not catch hell for it at some point. Nice going Neal and Jon. Good luck at the old folks homes. At least you can play loud there, they are all half deaf!

Did you offer him a fish taco?
Sammy's right. I was on the phone with one of my label buddies in Nashville today and he said "I heard about your favorite band staging a coup. ...They're just pathetic ol' geezers, aren't they?"

To which I laughed, agreed and asked if that damn Wreckers song was over charting and spin reports yet. Life goes on, the biz has eagerly labeled them as douchebags now... from what I can tell.

Good.

Sammy Speaks his mind always....and he aint gonna walk into the Tribute Band Journey now is.

As for management saying Perry isnt in...why does this carry so much weight. Theyve lied before..they could lie again.

Journey is now a joke, and if they are to ever win the fans back.....Perry must return.

My Opinion.....

Personally I dont think you can turn back time, and even if Steve Perry did go back, it wouldn't erase bad dealings that have gone on, in my opinion. :)

Well i for one would of been extremely surprised if Mr Perry came back. Especially after all the negetive publicity. I think his credability would be seriously tarnished and to be honest i think the gig would be more important to Journey than to him.

From an outsiders perspective i really do believe Journey have shot themselves in the foot and would be very interested how they manage to regain any credability after this fiasco.

I agree i think a lot of people if not most would think twice about filling the vacancy...if it still is...when a wall of silence goes up you really don't know that much. :?

Perry ain't coming back, folks.
I wish he would and I've been making
little comments and jokes about it in
other threads on how this band could be
keeping it all secret and having talks with Perry...
No happening...

Think of this...
Jeff had stated on NUMEROUS occasions
in this public forum, interviews or in PM conversations
that, "If Perry were ever ready to come back, he would
GLADLY step down and enjoy the reunion like every other
Journey fan out there because, honestly, that what Jeff
still pretty much was, a big Journey fan himself."

If this were all about Perry being interested, it would've
never gone down this way.
So as much as I like to joke and speculate,
believe Drew and Jeff when they tell you,
"Perry ain't coming back. No, no, no..."

We will soon be introduced to the
Ultimate Steve Perry Cover Band, though...

Potential voice issues aside, there is a small chance that Perry enjoys the power he has over them as much as he's enjoying retirement. He knows that people STILL talked about HIM all thru the SA years, the JSS stint & now. He knows people STILL picture his face & voice when someone mentions Journey...

Much like David Lee Roth said once "When you think of Eddie Van Halen, you think of a great guitar player...when you think of Van Halen, you think of David Lee Roth!"

When someone says "Journey" everyone on the planet immediately thinks of Steve Perry's voice....they think of "Lights"...they think of "Wheel In The Sky"...they don't think of Schon's solo on "Chain Reaction"...Steve Perry knows this and is content knowing that, since the day F&F decided to not wait for his hip to heal, 90% of Journey's fan base will STILL say his name & STILL pine for his return. I'm sure he's flattered, I'm sure it gives him chills to know this, and I'm also sure laughed like The Joker when evey major news outlet used HIS picture along with the Soprano's story. He knows that most of the known world still considers HIM to BE Journey...and I'm sure he's OK with that.

Look up an interview with Friga in BAM magazine circa 1987. In it he talks about how Smitty's situation was a GROUP decision made by Frig 'n Fro and Perry ~ and it wasn't to fire Smitty, but just to give him a break because he was having some difficulties at home that were "eating him alive" (Frig's words). Smitty didn't agree and left. I can't remember the specifics of the interview but I have it at home. I'm not sure about Ross ~ that may have been Perry.

SP would be a fool to go back to Journey.

SP is way to smart for Neals shit. IMO.

Perry is NEVER coming back. Not with Journey, not solo. Why would he? Now, people praise him for the vocal god that he was in the '80s. If he came back, all people would do is compare him against his past self and find him lacking. People would be saying that he should never have come back, and all of the praise would dry up. He is smart for retiring at the top of his game, unlike some vocal Michael Jordan who can't keep from coming back again and again.

I always thought the story was that Perry had gotten into drum machines (or was it click tracks) and Smith didn't want any part of it, which led to him being removed.

Smith has said in an interview that he wasn't familiar with click tracks at the time. He later became very proficient.
