Perry can still sing at a VERY high level. THAT is a fact. My guess is that he wants to sing again, but doesn't want all of the bullshit that comes with it. I also think he's trying to find ways to circumvent the "bullshit" part.

Hey SJ,

I said, I'm another STRONG BELIEVER that Perry CAN sing! Period! I didn't bring up anything about whether he sing high notes or not in my post. I realize you enjoy jumping on my post to rag on me, but you need to get a grip!

Since you brought that up though, I've ALWAYS stated that for ME that him being able to sing the "high notes is NOT important to me, there is MUCH MORE to singing than just being able to sing the "high notes" anyway.

I love the way Perry sings with such "passion and emotion" in his voice, when he sings, you can tell it is coming directly from his heart, and that is what I absolutely love about Perry's singing abilities!!!!!!! :D

So for ME, it doesn't matter whether he can sing the high notes or not! Got it Sj!

I was agreeing with you. Where the fuck do you get that I'm "jumping on your post to rag on you?"

At this point, not to trash anyone, but who cares about certain members of the band?
EVERYONE who loves Journey wants Perry back, if they say they don't give 'em a lie detector.

If Perry puts together his own groovy hip band (maybe even with Smith?) who's to say he won't be back out there in a year singing Journey along side some of his own personal compositions, ESPECIALLY if his contract with the band has run out stating he can't do so during a certain tenure. I can see the billboard now..."STEVE PERRY former lead singer of JOURNEY....IN CONCERT..HOLLYWOOD BOWL JUNE 22, 2008!!!!

Wouldn't it be nice to see Miles out there with Perry? won't happen but would be cool if it did.....

I remember seeing a post/interview somewhere recently that Steve Lukather said Perry had taken an interest in his son's career (he's a guitar player like Dad). Might have been tied in with the Nuno news. Can't remember.

Saint John wrote:" It has been brought to my attention that there is a rumor circulating that I am reuniting with Journey."

What rumor? There has been a bit of speculation regarding this, but nothing significant enough to warrant a response. This leads me to believe that a) Steve, in some way, knows what is being said on this board, b) he is coming out of hibernation is some way, shape or form or c) he threw the statement together to remain that ever-fascinating enigma that we so love to try and figure out. While I still feel that the reunion most all of us want is a far fetched fantasy, the timing and the fact that he's responding to something this insignificant really makes me wonder. There's no "rumor' of which he speaks. There simply isn't. There's been no radio stations, media or magazines suggesting this. Just a couple of hundred people throwing out ideas/fantasies on a message board. Hardly important or significant enough for a guy with 75 millions units sold under his belt to respond to. I'm left scratching my head. :? I love the way that dude operates. 8) Didn't before, but I do now.

PS For the record, I'm going with choice "b."

Yep, I agree...allthough C is also a defininte posibility!

Dude - you know I love ya but it is a serious rumor. I've heard it on the radio myself and have friends who have called me that heard it on their local radio station. It is in the industry magazines already (Pollstar for one). It's tagged onto many of the articles written about the Sopranos ending. Believe me, it's out there and not just on Journey & SP fan forums. Best way to squash it is with an official statement from the man himself ~ although there are still some who will believe what they want to believe anyway.

I love it when you get nasty. All you need is a whip and strappy heels, and maybe one of those police hats that Rob Halford wears, and you have a new career. I would be the first in line!

Well see then, the roadwork is already starting to be paved, I smell tux tails in the air, I smell shampoo on glossy black hair, I smell loads of money and good music. I smell lawyers and contracts, I smell.................oh, looks like I stepped in dog shit, new shoes too.
Anyway what was I saying ? oh yeah.......anyway I seem to have lost my place again. Oh yeah... anyway AS fans we can choose to play dead and all get jobs or we can choose to test how powerful we really are and ask nicely for WHAT WE ALL WANT. We may not get it, but to just roll over and play dead and get jobs is really kinda a dumb thing to do.
I mean, they will trade tickets for food stamps right ??

Remember when you were all toddlers and kept going to the cupboard to get the hard biscuit doggie treats and ma said no, but you kept asking AND ASKING AND ASKING AND ASKING until she finally shoved the dang thing in yo mouth ???

Yup, hell I kept asking and finally just crawled out of the crib and grabbed one by myself.

Either way WIN OR LOOSE OR SING THE BLUES, THE MUSIC NEVER ENDS AND NO MATTER what the rumors are it only adds up to more publicity which means more opportunity for Journey music to be used in movies like dumb and dumber 3 or B movies such as "My Teacher Gave Me a Ride", which adds up to royalty checks in the mail.
So basically we stir up the dust, they get checks, we get screwed.
But like good dogs we come back for more. Why ? because of those Chuck Wagon dog food commercials in the 70's where the dog chases the little wagon. It just mentally screwed our minds.

So when all this is said and done, we are all screwed up from TV Commercials !

Thanks for the clarification, Lora. Didn't realize it had reached all of those media outlets. I stand corrected.

Personally, I think Perry would be better off solo to be honest. Given everythign I've read to this point, I couldn't be paid to put up with the bullshit myself. I somehow doubt he wants to deal with it either

Liquid_Drummer wrote:I am only making the assumption that there is something seriously wrong with his cords from his speaking voice in the most recent interviews. Very. very scratchy and almost horse everytime I have heard him talk in the last few years. I really belive he may have blown them out trying to work them back in to shape at some point after the camelot soundtrack. He sounds like Joe freakin Pesci when he talks now. I hope I am wrong but if you listen to interviews through the years it has progressed and its very obvious. To have what he has/had and to lose it..... It would be very hard to handle. I have to wonder if thats it really why he talks about revisiting the old concerts and how emotional it is for him....

He hasn't lost it entirely, but you're absolutely correct. I'd sooner say he sounds like Al Pacino though. Remember what his voice sounded like in the Godfather and Dog Day Afternoon? Very clean, very high pitched. Fast forward to Scent of a Woman. HOOORAH! Raspy smokers throat.

For those who remember, Perry did an interview with Joe Benson in late 2006 to promote the digital remasters of Journey's albums and his solo stuff (plus added bonus tracks). In that interview, Benson asked him "so when are you auditioning band members" (goading him into returning). Perry laughed and the conversation continued in that direction until Perry himself said: "well, I'm going to work with a vocal coach TO SEE WHAT'S LEFT".

I don't know about you guys, but that to me is an admission of deteriorated chords.

Now, I'm not saying he can't sing at all. I'd say he's probably at the level of "Can't let you go" and "A brand new start" (collaborations with David Pack and a jazz guitarist who's name escapes me at the moment). What I'm saying is, he's probably about half of what he was and he doesn't want to sing live with that ever again. Being in Journey means touring and lots of it. It's just not going to happen.

Depending on what Perry himself feels about comes out of his collaboration with Nuno Bettencourt this year, we may or may not ever hear him sing again. He's his own worst critic. If he doesn't like what his own voice is producing, he'll shelve the recordings and keep them from the public ear.

The "name that escapes you" is Jeff Golub 8)

No disrespect to Mr. Pack....but can you imagine what Steve would've done with this song, utilizing his lower / "What Was" vocal range?
