Never put ANYthing past JR, el 'bato.

He KNOWS he needs to be I.T. Savvy and creative to get under your radar but shit about Boston sports is a dead red flag every time.

I think you're right
Maybe he was too good for them
Breathing life into Journey
Giving them the gift of life
lifting them from the ashes
but maybe they want to wallow in dark
lost in there own ego run amuck
Journey forsaken for what????

Guess we'll never know
as they fade into even deeper obscurity....

Ok, I'll give it a last shot:

JSS is TOO MUCH of a frontman for a band whose average age is 50. Deen is a hell of a drummer, but he's not IN FRONT.

He has a look I think didn't fit a classic rock act, but a more contemporary one.

That's my point. I hope I got it across this time.

Thanx. :)

I will say that from day one/my first post - I've been catching shit from people.
I understand that I joined at the exact moment the shite went down. Not my fault.
Just think of me as that weird uncle you only see at weddings....

No, not your fault. So let's move on, eh? You joined at a volitile moment and regulars here are VERY (and rightfully) suspicious of new users (as am I), due to the very nature of the split fan base this band has.

Cheers.

If you have something to say to me, say it....please don't accuse me of being someone I'm not.

I'm not this reardon person. My name is Sean. I live 30 miles from Boston. And actually I'm a Suns fan. But i live here, so I have to be at least a bit pissed at the goings on....no?

I live in Fall River, Ma. check out my IP address...I'm not hiding anything.....Dave knows me....

Món wrote:Now that Jeff parted ways with them, I hope the best for him and his new projects, 'cause the guy sure deserves it.

Granted. The guy's an EXCELLENT frontman.

He has voice and energy to spare.

I've heard that he's te kindest soul around, too.

My personal thoughts on this are that he just didn't sound...."right". He didn't look right either.

Journey is not Soul Sirkus, although Neal has tried to turn it onto a proto-metal entity (just listen to Generations). Unsuccessfully, thank God.

Perhaps this is why he was let go in the first place. In a truly shitty, class-less fashion, that is.

Any thoughts? :)

My first impression of JSS was also that he didn't sound "right" for Journey. It was weird seeing a different front-man for Journey who had a truly "post-Perry" sound. BUT .... after seeing him in concert, as an energetic frontman, and hearing his vocals, I was won over, as it were. I thought: "this is the trade-off: you get a non-Perry-clone, and hence a different sound for Journey .... but you get someone who has strong vocals and who has world-class appeal as a frontman, and (from what I had read and heard) someone who could carry his own in the song-writing department."

So my guess-timate after seeing him live was that JSS would win over vastly more new fans for Journey than he would lose. His presence would also open numerous more doors -- like recording new music, getting new outlets for Journey (like other radio stations etc.) -- than it would close.

And this is the calculation that I thought the band had made as well: they saw the availability of JSS, and recognized how they could truly move forward with him, and snagged him up while they could. Unfortunately, in the process, they unceremoniously dumped Steve Augeri in a most regretable way.

I was hesitant about how they might create new music, but I thought they hadn't gone this far to be retarded about it. So I was willing to be patient and see what resulted.

As far as Generations being "proto-metal", I'm not sure I concur with that one. I had hoped that New-Journey (w/ JSS) wouldn't be SoulSirkus Redux, because that would truly show a tin ear about where even the most-devoted fans would be willing to go. The only harder-edge song in Generations was Out of Harm's Way, and I thought it was a decent attempt at it. Not proto-metal, by any means -- but definitely (and I thought consciously) a different direction than ROR and TBF for sure (and that's okay by me). Actually, the song that I thought came damn close to being Journey-of-2006 -- if you could draw a straight line from Journey-of-1983 with Frontiers -- was The Place in Your Heart. It had energy, it was melodic, it had great lyrics, it was radio-friendly -- THAT was the direction I thought Journey was going as far as any new rock songs (in contrast to the power-ballads). It had the "Journey sound" while intentionally being in the best tradition of melodic rock.

Anyway, to re-cap: I thought JSS didn't sound "right" at first either, but he won me over and I was willing to see where he and the band were going to go next. I agree with you that the whole thing was handled beyond-shitty -- and I think Journey lost one of the best opportunities they had going for them in a long time.

C'mon everybody let's just hug it out! :P

And I'd like to second what Moon said about everyone of us being ripped at one point or another. Its like a right of passage. You have to earn your way into respect and stuff like that here. That's why I love it here. Hell, my very first post Deano ripped me a new one over it and it was over something non-chalant like upcoming shows. Point being, its just part of the culture. That's the charm. N-JOY.

They had a chance to break out of the mold!
Start being a band anew!!!!
Give some of us the credit for wanting more than history can repeat.

Steve Perry is happy in his life Journey aside
We all know there is only one Steve Perry
So why not open the stage & our hearts to the possibility of Journey without Perry!!!!!

Proto-metal not sure exactly what music would be called that. But proto means the origin or roots of something. Generations & anything metal are sooooo far removed in my opinion that I cannot buy that.

That's what I'm sayin... Perry feels animosic for a reason. Schon & Cain feel puckered for a reason. Too much dirty laundry. Not enough suds in the world to make it happen.

Steve Perry has given them enough
He doesn't deserve that attitude.
He is not there savior
he is a man
human like the rest of us
He deserves the right to life his life as does the rest of us
Frick & Frack can't use that as an excuse
for if they do it belittles them.
I believe every man & woman

Believe in me..Wasn't To Be alive Again a 'bonus' song from Arrival? I've heard it bagged on around here due to it's simplicity (I think the reference I'm referring to involved Steve A's reliance on 'Garage Band' to write a song...)

Listening to The Place in Your Heart - yes, definitely the 'Journey' sound. Really like this track

Not that I know of.

At least, it isn't listed as a bonus track.
