Higher Place seems like a difficult vocal to pull off, too.

I HATE that song live and it's a top 5 tune in the Augeri era.

gotta agree..........made me cringe in 2005

totally a studio only song

TNC and myself are still holding candlelight vigil for the first great live rendition of Higher Place. There's always a thing or 2 just....MMMPPH. Amiss?

Anybody have the JSS-led version they can put up again for us? The link was dead by the time I tried to download it.

From behind the curtain....

Postby AlienC » Wed Jul 04, 2007 4:34 pm

That morning, while walking down the hall leading outside, one of the extremely over-paid union hands kicked the neutral leg connector loose.
This is on the main power cables, those VERY heavy gauge cables that feed the power distribution system.
Doing this forces a normal 120 volt circuit to see 240 volts.

Not something one should do to innocent keyboards, amplifiers even computers.
Fortunately, the protective power strips, power regulators and the massive Un-interruptible Power Supply saved MOST of the gear from frying.
I had an interesting time convincing them it was their problem.
good thing the power strips were still letting smoke out when they came around saying "gee whut happened?"

We were so close to flames shooting out of the gear it's not funny. Then, SA would've been singing accapella, with drum and piano for instrumentation.

Perry never would have agreed to it.....but he had that power.

Sorry Maria, the average viewer at home is not privy to this information, nor do they take such logistical factors into account when choosing to open their wallets.
Their opinion rests solely on how well a band performs - exactly as it should be.
And here, in their biggest PR opportunity to date, the band came up short.

You can haggle whose fault it is (Mngt vs. Steve), but that misses the larger point.
The band had a rare chance at some great exposure here and collosally dropped the ball.

If Augeri came off a show the night before, I have to give him props for being there at all.

Regardless of the opposing views, I'm glad I got to see a few shows before it all crumbled down.

Aw man, that was the first time I had seen that performance and it just reminds me how much I like Steve Augeri and how sick I am that it is, as far as my world is concerned, over.

I leave with 23 years of Journey memories, two new great singers to follow and the knowledge that the "Journey" machine (whoever is holding the reigns) has virtually zero integrity.

Oh well. What was it that Meatloaf said?

Two out of three ain't bad.... :(

Hate to tell ya all, but a lot of the stuff that is shown on the morning shows is taped a day or two in advance. I saw a few of the shows that showed up and they were both taped around 12:30 in the afternoon so Augie sounding like shit isn't because he it was early it was because he sucked on that particular day.

It seems the band is playing it a little slower than normal, they just don't sound tight.

Too early in the morning for them I guess.

Thats pretty good, its a shame no one in Europe ever heard him when he was singing live :? I was lucky enough to catch the oakland memorial 2 years back show and by all accounts that was one of the last times he was live before they did the 30th Aniv tour. 8)

after doing a show the night before, hopping on a bus from Ohio (I think), no warm-up probably, braving windy, 60 degree weather. Cut the guy some slack already.

Perry never would have agreed to it.....but he had that power.

I am cutting slack, I said, who can sing at that hour, I know I can't. The poor guy. that sucks he had to do all that.

I love the excuses for Augeri, it was early so he couldn't sing well, they toured to much, he was having a bad hair day, etc. The guy was able to bring it for maybe 2-3 years vocally then died. He should've been replaced as soon as his voice was dying. Instead they keep him and tarnish their image with tapegate and now the JSS debacle. Neal and Jon could've put a carboard cutout of Augie on stage and it would've had the same effect as his stage presence, which granted I don't mind, but if you're going to do that at least get a guy who can bring it vocally
