"future Fan Asylum Birthday message thingy"

NO. I just thought it would be a good way to show our support. There's free will. If you're interested, fine. If not, also fine. If SP sings again, fine. If not, also fine.

I would love, love to see him sing again. Call me selfish, but it's the truth. Never saw him live. Is it my hope that he'll come back because of it? YES. Do I really think it will happen? No. Does it mean I shouldn't daydream a little and go for it? NO. Would the ad be a "sing or else?" Of course not. Would it be a love letter to our favorite singer? Absolutely.

I know alot of us talk about how great it would be to see SP one more time, so that got me to thinking. There's a similar thread over at Perriville, which is funny because I had been thinking along the same lines; if something could be done to bring SP out one more tiime.

Here it goes.

Fans of Jericho, as part of their campaign to bring the show back, took out a full page ad in Variety. I propose this. That his fans collectectively pool their money together and take out a full page advertisement in a MAJOR NEWSPAPER. One that Steve is sure to read. The main idea would to be express how much we miss him, how much we appreciate him, and to show him that the music industry is a very dark lonely place without him. That his fans could care less if he hits the high notes. That he is more than the sum of an upper octave, Maybe, just maybe it will convince him to come back, just one more time.

I know there are some people who may think I have lost my marbles. That this idea is crazy. To them I say, those who have no imagination have no desire other than to toil in drudge. I think this could really work, and I am deadly serious about this. ANYONE?

I usually try to stay out of these things, but because you are talking about people contributing money, I felt I needed to say something before this gets out of hand. Steve Perry does not feel unappreciated. He is well aware of the loyal and wonderful fans he has. The decision of whether or not he will sing/perform again is his alone to make. I would never presume to speak for him, but I also don't want to see people contributing money to something that is not going to achieve the results hoped for. I'm sure he would be flattered and humbled by the effort but that's as far as it would go.

You are free to do this if you want and I fully understand the thought and desire behind the effort, but I personally don't think it is money well spent.

I didn't see this till after the fact..Sorry..
If I may add...
Think of the uncomfortable spot you might be putting him in by again, having to announce his comeback plans. Did that make sense?

I have to ask you Lora......how much does Mr. P pay attention to what happens with Journey? My thinking is this......if he did receive compensation for Journey touring the last several years, he must know that they have done pretty well. I assume somehow someway he heard some of their live performances and some of their new material. I have to think he was of the opinion that the legacy he was part of building wasn't being hurt. But what has happened the last couple of years is now hurting their legacy....does he know about this stuff (tribute singer, Tapegate)? Does he know that Journey fans that haven't even been loyal to him are begging him to come back and SAVE the band? I think this is different than in '98.

He's been undulated with emails from Fan Asylum. He knows his fans miss him. An ad placed anywhere isn't going to make any difference. Is this for him you do it, or yourself? Do as you wish, but the money is better spent elsewhere (in my opinion).

Agreed.

Several Perry sites every year make contributions to differant charities in his honor for his birthday.

And yes I think he does prefer that instead of receiving gifts.

He has mentioned in the not to distant past that a charity he has been interested in is Save the Chimps which provides a safe haven to chimps that have been used in laboratory testing and would be put down otherwise. http://www.savethechimps.org/index.asp

And please folks, before anyone jumps, he has always supported several organizations that benefit human beings.

I thought the same thing. I'm agreeing with both Lora and Henley on this one.
SP knows people care. That was never in question.
But he's made it more than abundantly clear, many times, that he enjoys his private life.
I agree sindee, why call it out into the open that way?
He knows exactly where the spotlight is should he so choose to return to it.

I think donating money to one of HIS charity foundations in HIS name would be a good way to let Perry know we fans are thinking of HIM, and would be helping out a charity organization at the same time. I'm not claiming to know how he feels about it, but I'm just guessing that he might appreciate that more because it is helpng out one of his charities that HE cares about. And I would donate money for that too!

I really think it would be best to take Lora's advice on this. The petition thing to show him how much he is missed and how much we would like to hear something new from him may not be such a bad idea, but getting money involved in it may make Steve uncomfortable. Only he knows why he's not singing and I'm sure it's a good reason to him whether we understand it or not. Having his fans spend money to try and talk him into doing something that he has good reasons for not doing could seem pretty heavy handed and maybe even a little intrusive.

Good counsel.

Count me out. In the case of Jericho the fan's plea was heard by a corporate machine. It told the machine that there was enough fan interest to bring the show back.

In the case of JOURNEY the plea will be to a BAND which has joined/parted ways a few times - NOT based on what fans have wanted but on what their LABEL has wanted and to some degree on what THEY'VE wanted. If JOURNEY cared about the fans then they never would've brought in SP to begin with! JOURNEY cares about making money. THAT is why SP was brought in otherwise Columbia would've dropped them. Money was also the reason SP came back for TBF.

The plea is fine but it HAS to be made to JOURNEY's label. And their label is...?

Do you REALLY think JOURNEY/SP are going to pick up the paper and say, "Gee - some fans want SP back in the band -
LET'S DO IT!!!"

I think they're more inclined to say, "No shit. Really. Fans want SP back...?"

Unless the ad could guarantee $$$ (lots of it) I seriously doubt it would be at all effective.

The more productive idea would be to collect the money and give it to Jeremey for a Steve Perry facelift operation. Then we'll have a Hugo/Jeremey monster and satisfy everyone.

I've spent enough money on Journey and Perry stuff. I'm not going to pay to get him to join a band that he clearly doesn't or cannot perform with any longer.

He's not interested. He's said it a bazillion times. Why is it so hard for people to just face the truth?

Oh, before I forget...

LOON!

NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.
