I can see Jeff playing at Martyrs or the Abbey Pub...kind of on the small side but better to play a small venue and sell out than play somewhere too big and have it half-empty.

I haven't lived in Chicago for many years. Schuba's used to be totally cool. Saw many a great band there (Smashing Pumpkins before they were anything, for example). The Park West is awesome & always an intimate feel too even tho it holds quite a # of people. The Vic was a bit rundown for my liking. I don't know Martyrs at all. But I can't dig The Abbey as that's too small & pub-like. I thought they only had Irish bands anyway? Or has that changed since my days in Chi-town too?

The Abbey Pub has other bands...I saw the Minus 5 there last year. Not a great hard rock venue, but it's not a bad place.

I'm not a huge fan of Martyrs since it has shitty as hell sightlines, and the stage is so low to the ground you don't see much. I think it's too small for JSS's music, but despite the Journey thing, I doubt he'd be able to draw more than 500 people the first time he tours under his own name, despite the brief Journey connection. I think the Journey run made more people aware of HIM, but I don't think it's going to draw those casual "dirty dozen" fans to see him play music they've never heard, even if he can sing like Steve Perry.

Schubas rarely has rock bands...the Pumpkins played the Metro many times, but if they did Schubas it was either REALLY REALLY early in their career or part of a special acoustic show of some kind, I'm guessing. They're more of an acoustic/folk-y venue, although it's a great place to see that kind of music.

If this actually happens, he will have to start slowly, playing some smaller and shitty venues...I don't know if at Jeff's age he (or any promoters or his band, for that matter) would be willing to do the kind of shitty small-club tour for very little money that most bands get out of their systems in their mid-20's, but I'm hoping for the best.

Dear JSS, if you ever read this, don't play the HOB in Chicago, it's a piece of shit. There's some great smaller venues in the city that I think would be perfect for JSS.

What are judging this on? I've been there a shitload of times and it's a fantastic place to see a show. Most recently I saw 7th Heaven, Slick and Europe. It was great.

Yeah I'd have to agree. What other venues are still there? Schuba's still around? Park West?

Schubas isn't really a hard rock venue, but the Park West is by far the best venue in the city. There's also the Vic Theatre that holds about 1,000, probably too big for JSS.

Martyrs is a cool place as is Joe's on Weed Street.
