Yeah, it's too bad his religious beliefs are making him waste his talent. Such a shame.

Same thing happened to John Schlitt. He did end up singing for Petra (a Christian band), but he could have been as big as Steve Perry if he wouldn't have done the whole religious thing. Once they go that route they usually don't come back.

I'm sure if you asked Jason if he is happy doing what he's doing, whatever that is, he'd tell you that he is. If that's the case, then he's not wasting his talent.

As for John Schlitt, if you listen to his whole catalogue with Petra, you'd realize nothing was wasted at all. The stuff he did with them from 1986 through 1997 was excellent. They definitely had their share of "success" as they were the biggest selling band in the genre for several years running and I'm sure Schlitt would tell you that God's plan for him was better than his own plan.

A waste because from what he told me he no longer sings at all. There are a handfull of people in the entire world that can sing like that. As long as he is happy thats all that matters. It is his life..

His speaking voice was also much like SP from the early days.

The drummer on this pic is not the same guy as on the recordings. This guy made it feel way more like Smith and had that special touch in his playing that made the whole thing even more authentic.

If you don't call that the best replacement for the band, I don't what you think is. I just wish Jason would.....I was actually in contact with him at the Journey show in 2001 and the one before that in Pittsburgh. I wish I still had his e-mail adress...Journey needs him!!!!!

I don't think if you did a test and played one after the other, 99.9999% of the fans could tell who; who is. Perry and Jason that is. His recordings are SCARY, SCARY close to the great one......

If Kelty's still singing, there's still hope. It's not like Journey's lyrics are bad. It's not AC/DC or Buckcherry!

Kelty is so dead on vocals of Perry he makes all the others pale. I'm really surprised they didn't pick him up in the past. They probably tried though. I'd love to hear anything else he's done.

I've always hoped Perry recorded a ton of stuff that wasn't released when his voice was in its prime. A voice like theirs is so rare that to have it and not use it is definitely a waste IMO.

You can be happy with life and all but that voice won't last forever. Sing what you want but get it on tape so others can enjoy it.
