Actually, he's not correct. He's making an enourmous amount of money scaring people into believing that there is a crisis. The author of "Love Story", Eric Segal, has even come out and said that Al Gore and his Harvard roommate, Tommy Lee Jones, served as models for Love Story's male protagonist. The Tipper part isn't factual, but that could be attributed to hazy memory on Gore's part, or a reporting error on the journalists part. Either way, at least what Gore said wasn't invented entiriely out of whole cloth, like say, "waterboarding isn't torture."
