Haha... Right-O you are, and Deano took the bait! I picked that one specifically for him, for calling Don out on his chicklets in another thread. :P

Talking about cheese brings up an unrelated topic, in all seriousness (if only for a moment... haha). Anyway, this has nothing to do with this thread, because I know I'm preaching to the choir... I love kidding back and forth about whose band sucks and whose rules, as long as it doesn't get personal, because music is just so subjective -- means different things to different people. I know some here thing Europe sucks for example (and for good reason, taken their earlier material), but on their album "Start From The Dark", they have a tribute to Phil Lynott called "Hero", in which he sings, "You wrote the soundtrack to my life..."

A lot of people can tie some of their most memorable moments to a certain band, or a certain song. I know there are songs I HATE, but I can't argue with some guy that likes it because it was playing the night he met his wife, ya know?

So take Duran Duran... I thought they sucked when I first heard them, and teased my sister and her friends for having such crushes on all of them. But then I started thinking....hmmmm!

My first band was a virtual Duran Duran clone... we had our hair the same way, dressed the same way for shows, etc.... and what do ya know? The girls loved us too! :P And the rednecks HATED us, because their girlfriends loved us. I could share some hilarious stories... those were definitely the days! :P But.... Heck yeah, I learned to love Duran Duran!

Here's a funny Dokken story... About 4 years ago, I was singing "Alone Again" out in this club, and this girl who I'd just been getting to know (she was in our circle of friends, but we hadn't even exchanged names) came up to me and said, "OMG!!! I LOVE that song! My first boyfriend... That was our favorite song back when I was only 16!" Then we started talking, and she asked where I went to high school. I told her, and she asked me, "Do you know ____ ________ (MY name)" I said, "Yeah.... He's a real a**!" :P Then I told her I was teasing... that was me! Turned out that she was my first girlfriend, and I was the guy she was talking about... Hadn't seen her since I was 17, ever since she moved out of state. So I had my first kiss because of Dokken! :P Didn't even remember that "Alone Again" was our song.... She makes me sing it every time I see her out.

funny you mention Dokken and Duran Duran in the same thread.-brings back a memory: I used to hang with a crew of kids growing up in the 80's who listened only to Dokken and Van Halen, (and me a little journey) We used ask kids on the bus a single question: Dokken or Duran Duran? If they said Dokken who? or Duran2 was the answer theyd have the bus ride from hell!. We'd ridicule them to Sh*t, squash their lunch, bust their glasses, god knows what other sorts of horrible things :D (im still going to confessional all these years later trying to kill off the guilt)

By the way Im not mean anymore !

HA! Funny you should mention Dokken and Van Halen in the same thread... brings back a memory: :P

Several years ago, I helped a DJ buddy with his rock radio show, and I lined us up with a phone interview with RATT bassist Juan Croucier. Juan was telling us about the music scene back in the day, and about how how there were two unique guitarists who were just tearing up the scene -- Eddie Van Halen and George Lynch. He said everyone knew that one of those guys was about to blow the scene wide open, and then of course, Eddie broke first. Juan ended up playing in Dokken with George. I've actually gotten to play the orange "Trick or Treat" Charvel bass that Juan used to record both "Breaking the Chains" and "Out of the Cellar" with.

I'm still not sold on Arnel after that youtube clip.

It's going to take some great new music to convince me that he is the right singer for Journey.

Just don't feel it yet.

What this a sarcastic post? :P I haven't watched that many Zoo videos -- just a few -- but this one was pretty off... I'm also beginning to see why holding the notes out longer than Perry irritates some people. I think he'll do a good job w/Journey, but they didn't do such a great job with this song.

I can't stand the way Arnel drags the notes out... WTF is he trying to say look at me I'm better than Perry?? Not by a long shot bud, not on your best day. Sing the damn songs the way they were meant to be sung. The diction thing needs tons o' work... hey Neal my wife is a speech language pathologist, you guys need one!

This may very well depend on HOW LONG HE CAN KEEP IT UP. Which was the case with S.A.

Sure he can do some karaoke a couple nights a week. Sure he has a great vocie, nobody can deny that. But can he do it night after night after night! From what I understand, the reason SP would not want to do a Journey reunion (besides the hatred amongst the members), is that he would not be able to perform to the expectations of the fans night after night as his present age. Moreover, as is the case with vocalists, he has lost most of his high range and would not be able to sing the songs the way he wanted to or the way fans would want him to. Studio..I'm sure he can do anything still, but live night after night, I don't think so.

Considering the guy has been singing 6 out of 7 nights for the past few years night after night singing requests handed to him by fans, I think his voice has acclimated to the work. Studio or not, it would seem that, even at the age of 40, that Arnel Pineda can contribute to what Cain calls, the "heritage sound."

Anyway...nice board for the most part-there seems to be a small number of internet terrorizers that love to tear down instead of build up. IMHO while they do what they do, it won't mean much to what Journey will do.

I'm sure that the "masses" will continue to support Journey, it's what the masses do until that group stops performing...until it's time to perform again like say...The Police. Journey will tour again and Mr. Pineda will transition from just an Asian Sensation to a bonafide member of Journey at least that's how I see it and now it seems there is a growing contingent who agree or at least is willing to find out.
Y'all be cool.

Asian Sensation? How do you figure? Working in nightclubs in the Phillipines and in Hong Kong for a few years hardly makes one a household name, even in Asia, or at least that's how I see it.

You seem a little harsh and critical of the regulars in your very first post here. I'm sure you're already aware of this (since your post seems very Susie-esqe) that particular members of this board have already effected change in the Journey camp in the past, so your humble opinion doesn't carry much weight.

Welcome to MR.
