This list is not right...USC has 7 NC's by itself. Stanford has one, Cal one, and even WSU has a FB NC.
Using that criteria the Big 10 would have 39 national championships. For this page, we only count National Championships since 1936. Reason is that's when the AP began its poll and that's when we first had a "consensus" national champ. Prior to that there were numerous polls and numerous teams crowned "National Champs." Of course, even after '36 there continued to be numerous polls and it appears you have counted several NC's from minor polls. Finally, of course, the SEC only began in 1932; so it's a bit unfair to add in NC's from years that the SEC didn't exist -- at least if you are comparing conferences.
