Why do we have to learn about a Journey Tour from a Phillipino news article????

The cause??

Postby perryfaithful » Fri Jan 18, 2008 6:42 am

"I’d hope to be one of the biggest crusaders for the Filipino cause and tell them (foreigners) that Filipino musicians are one of the bests in the world," he shared.

"My break is really about a Filipino who made it in Journey" ??

Whatever....

I think J28 just made a great point. Why isn't the Band Journey out publicizing this event? Maybe a road test first?

...and is Arnel the one mentioning all these details? If so, why in the world can't we get any sort of information like that available to everyone???

Well you weren't expecting them to, like, commuicate with (what's left of) their fans in the US or god forbid, do something with that poor excuse for a website were ya?

So apparently he sang during that press meeting? Is that posted somewhere, I'm curious to hear if he/they corrected the diction/lyric issues. Should tell us something about how ready he'll be for this tour.

Cheers,

I am absolutely dumbfounded by how they are deciding to give out information. I seriously cannot understand what possible reason they have for always being so secretive about things. Maybe things aren't 100% confirmed, but how about an update everyonce in a while?

I would be willing to bet that his "accent" will return whenever he is "home". I am betting what the band has done is given him the tools to 'cover' the issues, not 'fix' them.

Well, to be quite fair and honest, having read our board since tapegate crested I'd wouldn't think they'd be sending personalized pms to every member on this site to keep them in the loop.

But it is weird to have this phillipino nationalist hemmorhaging all the info to his people first. :?

This has been addressed already. They're not out publicizing this at least so much to the US public, because TPTB have determined that the band stands to make more by keeping the US concert going fans in the dark on this.

It's pretty plain and simple to see. Journey would rather have 5,000 people in attendance thinking that Arnel is really Steve Perry than 500 in the audience knowing Arnel is Arnel. They'll announce it during the show, they may even have signs up all over the place (like they did during the Vacations Over tour)....but they're *hoping* that 3/4 of the people don't notice. This way, when they show up at work the next day going "I went to see Journey last night!" and a co worker goes "They're still around?" the person can go "Oh Yeah! blah, blah, blah..."

The flipside brings a bleaker picture into this. As soon as a co-worker asks the 'still around' question...hes going to get an explanation as to the fact that Steve Perry left the band for the second time in 1998 and that they're currently on their third replacement singer in as many years. Instead of intrigue and curiosity from the co-worker, he/she will respond with out-right laughter and dismissal.

It doesn't make sense to broadcast this too loudly....perhaps in the philipines where this can be leveraged into some variety nationalistic upcomance....but not here.

Not buying it anymore.

Not after 10 years. Frank, you yourself have shot down the very argument you're now using in dustups with Matthew over that issue.

Actually, the 'casual' fan probably won't even notice Perry's not there. I don't think people care that much. However, if they cared about ANYONE in the band, it was Perry, so you're probably right.

Hey Bryan!

I meant to reply in that other thread, but I can't find it anymore :-)

Good to see you here. Hope all is well with the music!

For those of you who don't know, Bryan sang on my last album.

This is true. Literally everyone I have mentioned this too (I'm talking about your "average joe-what's journey up to these days" folks) has outright laughed at this, and one of these people, who knows full well my favorite song ever is SIL has actually taken to teasing ME about it (by singing "stone innn ruuuuuvvvv" around me). Now *I'M* even catching crap for Journey's shenannigans.

Over there, they'll love it. Here, it's a total JOKE. "Journey did WHAT? Bwaaaahaaaahaaaa!"

I'm taking a lot of shit too. There are precious few Journey fans where I work. I don't give a shit, I'll bring in the '81 Houston DVD and pop that baby in and let her rip in the breakroom. :D Then quietly, people will come up to me and ask where they can get a copy of it. Closet Journey fans.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

What Journey69 doesn't get is we the fans are sick to death of all this filipino hype!Journey loves keeping us in the dark and yes they will continue to advertise using Steve Perry's voice. One day,one day an irrate fan will sue them for false advertising. The fan on the belief they are going to see Journey with Steve Perry and what do they get?????A sound alike replacement.............duh.

That is putting it quite mildly. They have no choice actually, than to do what they are doing. They have alienated their U.S. fans for the most part to the point of no return. Wait until Arnel gets the boot, then they won't be able to show face over there either. Plan C?

From what I have gathered at Journey concerts, NO ONE still thinks Steve Perry is in the band. I'd rank this at well under 1,000 people per show. That notion is simply ridiculous. I don't know about other parts of the country, but I KNOW that here in Chicago fans know that SP is NOT in Journey anymore. Complete bullshit. I scratch my head every time I hear that argument. And now I'm suuposed to believe that Journey is trying to perpetuate the belief that Steve Perry is in the band by hiring a fucking FILIPINO????? They would've hired Hugo if that was the case. It's not. Get over it.

Instead of saying 'people think Perry is still in the band' I think the point is closer to "they don't want everyone knowing they have YET AGAIN changed lead singers."

Speaking of Augeri, all of the recent posts about Arnel joining Journey are almost exact duplicates of posts from when Augeri joined Journey 10 years ago. Same debates, same ridicule for the new guy trying to emulate Perry, same New Guy vs. Steve Perry arguments, same "Perry impersonator" jokes... just the same old song and dance. Been there, done that, bought the concert t-shirts (which is exactly what they are hoping for!).

but wasn't it a little different then? That was the FIRST replacement, albeit a personator, but Journey wasn't the singer revolving door it is today, or the joke. I can go with the flow the first time and get used to it, but not three times into it. IMO
