Yup, I did and for a reason, but that has nothing to do with Arnel.

You think Jeremey is great and can replace Perry, but Arnel cannot?

This is no slam on Hunsicker at all, but you need to wipe the crud from your eyes. LOL.

Well, to each his own Dean. I don't know what else to say. There is nothing about Arnel that I like. I think his voice sounds like a rusty hinge on many notes and there's sure as hell nothing about him that I find pleasant to watch. Those who like his sound and look are certainly free to enjoy him.

I've got Perry on the classics and Jeremey live with Frontiers. That's all the Journey I need or want.

I'll tell you what Jeremey. I'm an old diehard. I think Arnel will do a fine jobe with Journey and I'm looking forward to hearing him with the band. But I will definately be at any Frontiers show anywhere close. You guys are flat good.

I say it again, I prefer Jeremey...However, you are as way out there on this as you are on politics. I can see not liking a particular singer, but to say he sounds like a "rusty hinge"? Are you kidding me?

Cheif - no doubt mate. Speak your mind here withotu fear. I'm still not sold on Arnel either and this latest YouTube doesn't push me any further in that direction.
I'm still hanging on for the JSS reunion :)

My only general point was that I don't want to give others that love to bitch about the tone of this place any additional ammunition. I see it didn't take long for that to happen, so my hope is that we here will rise above that.

With ya on that. Arnel is a little cutie with a really good voice. I'm sure he'll do just fine. But there is just something missing in his voice for me. There is a passion in the delivery that I'm just not hearing, maybe it's in the tone, who knows........it's all subjective. All I know is EM/SP/JSS have that vocal quality in spades. :D LOL maybe I need to hear Arnel do something with a Motown groove.......if he can pull it off any where near the other 3 then we'll see. The bar is pretty high.

The fact that the show wasn't promoted probably accounts for that. I think they're doing this right. Putting him in front of a largely casual audience for his first public U.S. date is smart. I never got the "ticket sales" argument. I'm going and that's all I really give a shit about. Some people judge concerts by attendance (and I'm not implying you do), I judge them by substance. That is to be seen.

While I'll agree in principle that maybe keeping it low key is a good idea....

I'm not sure what promotion you expect? It's a vegas show....anyone here from Vegas that can attest to no promotion? If I were the backer of the show, I'd have a hard time agreeing to the show not being promoted. I suspect in Vegas, the show is being promoted apropriately. I also question, if no/little promotion is being employed, why they would do that if they are filming the show for a DVD? That seems rediculously reckless to me.

Moving onto the judging thing. I'm not suggesting that the concert be judged by concert attendance, but it's definitely a leading indicator on the current draw ability of this band. We're not talking about whether an individual tom, dick or harry is going to like Arnel in this band. They can judge that on their own. This is ALL about whether or not the band can support a certain attendance level when booking a date in a city with 2.5 months to go.

By comparison, I can't get a 2 seats together for VH at MSG in NYC in mid march. The show is about as close to sold out as you can imagine. Same time frame, drastically different draw. I guess having a band with it's original singer = ticket sales. replacement singer != ticket sales.

Did I miss something? Where did you hear they were filming this show for a DVD? Also, I dont think Vegas is promoting this because if you do a search for Vegas shows, there is nothing for Journey listed.

Thanks ttango1 for posting this. Very happy that I got to see Arnel singing without instruments, like old times. Notice how the recording equipment can't handle the volume of his voice in that interview. Because it's loud man! It was like a yelling contest at one time, to get the vocals ready for a show. Sort of like a pissing contest to see who could piss the furthest, but in our case it was who could hit the highest notes. Great memories come to mind when I saw Arnel in that video. Thanks again.

Did you miss something? How about fucking life? Dude, if you call yourself a fan, and have to question or even ask, if they are filming this on DVD in Vegas, you are a dumbass.

Now, whether or not that DVD will ever see a store shelf is an entirely different question.

Seriously, you have over 16000 posts and I have 10, and I'm the one that's missing fucking life? Been to several other artist's shows in Vegas and they did not tape, and have gone to every Journey show in my area since they came back in 98 and then some, and there has maybe been one camera filming from backstage. Am I really a fan? I guess since i'm willing to shell out the money to sit front row in the Gold for this show then I must be. Just not as obsessed as others I guess.

Fair enough Cheif!

Postby ttango1 » Fri Feb 01, 2008 5:46 pm

I take umbrage when someone says "a person looks shifty". What does that mean? Say you don't like him, I get that, but don't say a person looks shifty. It makes it seem as if because a person has a permanent tan, that he is now SHIFTY.

Strangegrey...I will say outright that I may have disagreements with you but let's try to debate the musical aspects. If we can stick to that, that would help make this place the calming zen place that Andrew dreams of(NOT)

Now as to this:

I'm not sure what promotion you expect? It's a vegas show....anyone here from Vegas that can attest to no promotion? If I were the backer of the show, I'd have a hard time agreeing to the show not being promoted. I suspect in Vegas, the show is being promoted apropriately. PLANET HOLLYWOOD
Planet Hollywood Theatre

Feb. 15-16/David Spade
March 28-29/Wanda Sykes

Do you all see what I see? Not a single mention of Journey.
Do a search on their webpage-
http://www.lvrj.com/search?keywords=Journey&x=0&y=0
Look at that page...again no mention of Journey

What about Independent papers? Every major city has an independent that shows everything and anything that is happening in that city. For San Diego, it's called The Reader. For Las Vegas, it's The Sun.
http://www.lasvegassun.com/search/?q=Journey
Hey there is a mention, but it's about Greg Rolie.
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2005/ju ... present-a/

So in terms of promotion, It's hard to find.

Let's theorize here. IMHO, I feel that maybe they are doing this to give their fans, the ones that don't mind taking the road less traveled, a chance to hear Journey. It's a small venue, and the ones that find this concert will do what many of us are doing, they will travel from far and near to see what this band has to offer. While the way the bandleaders have treated SA & JSS has polarized the fans, I'm amongst the people that feel that Pineda has a chance here to make All Journey fans, past and present, hear and feel the magic, different but familiar. If it works, that'd be awesome. Even if it doesn't, we'll always have the recordings of the Steve Perry era.

SG...fo reals man...I'll ease up. I can tell that you're knowledgeable and passionate about what you speak of, I hope that you understand that I'm the same way. I don't need anyone telling me what Filipinos do since I do it every day.
To the ones who are making the trip...I WILL SEE YOU THERE.

Thanks Andrew for having a cool forum. 8)

For a taping...They only need a crowded front area

Postby ttango1 » Fri Feb 01, 2008 6:03 pm

The rest of it is hidden with video editing. I remember back in the day when MTV first started doing their Spring Break Specials live and when you watch it from the comfort of your living room, it seemed as if the entire beach was full of fans. A few years later they came to San Diego, and I had 2 friends competing in the Beauty and the Beach. They both made the final so I went to the taping of the show and what seems like hundreds on TV was literally done with a hundred. They just filled the front area and the put some overflow to the sides and once it was on TV....bam, lots of people.

I really hope that there is a lot of people there but if there isn't, I'm of the opinion that ones that get in will get a great show.
If Frontiers ever comes to San Diego, I would watch Jeremey. What's not to like about a band that plays Journey well?

A DVD should be filmed in front of as many of your fans as possible. The less editing and fake shit the better. I have a feeling this show will eventually be promoted to some extent. The question is...when?

That was a nice clip, thanx for posting it Tango.
Arnel seems to be truly happy and excited to be fronting Journey...What a dream come true for him! :)
As for his voice - I love it.He's been blessed with golden pipes.

Once he'll get touring, his voice will sound better and better...
This acapella bit convinced me once again that Arnel will be amazing as soon as he has the band behind him in a live set-up.
I can only imagine how good he sounds in a state-of-the-art studio!

Thanks, but the homeless part is the only joke. I am sure they will have to give tix away to make it look respectable. Too much competition in Vegas.
