Take any major band from the 80's......who are currently all still together......and do they have ANY songs even remotely close to becoming a hit? NO! (ok, maybe with the exception of BonJovi) We all want new music from our favorite band. I think what draws most of us to Journey IS their classic sound from the 80's, whether it be from a ballad, or from a rocker, but there just isnt a demand for that kind of music anymore. I just want them to continue to be creative and make new music.

I think you are right on there. I wasn't really into Journey...mostly due to my age at the time when they were huge. I knew most of the "hits" growing up and that they were Journey songs. I bought TBF, which was the first studio album for me and liked a number of the songs... Fast forward to SA joining. When I heard Remember Me, I really liked that song and then got into them more during Arrival and the Augeri era. It was easier for me to accept SA then probably a lot of others because I wasn't so connected to a SP fronted Journey, so it was easy to give him a chance. I know he didn't have the strongest voice and there were probably better candidates out there to replace Perry, but I was satisfied when I saw them live, and accepted the fact that there is one SP, and SA was just doing the best he could trying to fill unfillable shoes. But, what that did for me was to gain a better appreciation for the band and their history.

To address another post above... I do think they are content being a nostalgia act even though they write new material. I think the new material is for them and the hardcore fans who want them to keep producing music. But, in all reality, the casual fan who goes to see them live is taking a leak during the new songs because they don't want to miss DSB, Faithfully, etc..etc.. And, if they weren't satified with this labeling, they most likely would not have dumped Jeff in favor of another guy who can do good impersonations of Perry.

I'm a MASSIVE fan from anything in the Rolie era, especially the first album and the Infinity/Evolution/Departure knockout. Perry's voice was at its purest here too.

I LOVE Escape and Frontiers.

I like Raised on Radio and TBF.

I LOVE Arrival, Red 13, Generations.

Hit the ground running in 1985 when I bought Captured on a whim. BAM! Instantaneous Journey fan.

Got everything back to Infinity - didn't really care about the early stuff until MUCH later.

Kicked and screamed my way into the Augeri years and came to really like him - Arrival is my favorite Journey album.

Didn't lift my jaw off the ground for a MONTH after seeing JSS - didn't bother me because I thought SA was sick and could NOT sing.

No Augeri, no JSS....

Just don't have the ambition to hear the songs yet again with another voice.

Dude, ever listen to the (quasi) title track in headphones?

The Schon-Cain interplay on that instrumentation is flat out sick.

I only like the first three songs on Generations. Rest of it is really poor stuff

As far as Red 13 is concerned- I like Walking Away from the Edge so much, Id recommend buying the whole CD.

Yeah, I kinda view Red 13 and Generations as one whole shabam, they go extremely well together.

Contrary to what most on this board say, Generations is a great album. The first three songs are incredible, and even most of the others have their merits. Some of the harder-rocking Journey material is on here such as "Out of Harms Way," "Gone Crazy," and "Faith in the Heartland." Two of the best Journey ballads ever too, in "Beyond the Clouds" and "Butterfly (She Flies Alone)." THERE, I SAID IT.

Yeah, I have, I was actually just thinking about that track the other day. I dig the concept and the lyrics too.

Generations may not have the best songwriting in Journey's catalogue, but it does have some of the coolest instrumentation.

Red 13 is worth it just for Walking away the edge, imo

Generations takes a while to get into, but its worth it, some really relly top tracks on that album. Theres more good than bad that for sure.

Hell no Generations is pure sh!te for the most part. There are a couple of nice songs if you can get over the garage band demo sound.
Red13 has one good track. Both were a big let down after Arrival.

Not a thing wrong with saying it Colonel.
It was very safe to say in 2005 when we were dissecting the album here every day and then poof, people turned on the album because the "live" controversy.

Another good Neal headphones track with AWEsome hidden riffs and chord progressions is The Time, LOVE listening to every part of that tune.

It was no Perry, no Journey for me until JSS, but that was ignorantly over too soon. Now it's no Perry, no Journey for me again.

Or this one. Anybody who's listened to Journey and call themselves music fans, at least know who Steve Perry and Neal Schon are. Take it from a guy who did nothing but talk Journey nonstop in high school.

Oh Sherrie- JSS turned Journey into a band we would attend concerts again. I think we would both be 1st in line for any Perry/ Journey concert. I think it is in our hearts. The only thing is we would not be able to acquire a ticket w/o mega $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ unless there was a huge tour and then maybe.

i think 1981 was probably the best year journey ever had.they released captured in early '81 featuring their best stuff off the first three perry album with rollie and it hit the top ten on the album charts.a few months later in august they released escape which was a number one album featuring their best material and most successful live show.they absolutely were firing on all cylinders during this time and the transition from rollie to cain went very smoothly.i've always thought captured and escape were their two best efforts.both were very good albums......

I'll never forget how blown away I was when I got E5C4P3 for Christmas in 1981. I had heard DSB, SIL, OA and WCN on the radio, and then when I got to hear the title track, MF, DOA, STR... wow. I knew it was a masterpiece.
