He sounds pretty good. That sure made appreciate Neal's guitar playing though!

You do realize that Arnel was brought into this band for the sole purpose of attempting to perfectly match Journey's "legacy" years, right? The reason they moved away from Jeff was because Jeff simply didn't sound enough like Steve Perry! I'm quite sure that Neal and Jon have ZERO desire for Arnel to start sounding like someone, other than the singer who put them on the map! I certainly don't begrudge the decision they made. I personally think it's a smart business decision. Just don't expect Arnel to start sounding like someone else. My hunch is that the more time he spends in Journey, the closer he'll sound to Perry, and that's by design!

Incorrect. They went back to the "legacy sound"...meaning a soaring tenor. Jeremey Hunsicker would have been the choice if your assertion was correct, but it's not. They picked someone with an amazing voice for new material, but one with just enough timber and that soaring tenor to do the back catalog justice. The only person that Arnel sounds like is Arnel.

We'll agree to disagree on that point! Neal is a lot of things, but he is definitely not stupid! If Neal had the ability to clone Perry's voice, EXACTLY, he'd bottle it up and keep playing his guitar to it, until his fingers fell off!

LMAO because it is so true....

Also that clip of Arnel for DSB is great...enjoyed every second of it....
Can you imagine how he will sound with the greatest band in the world behind him....
Not Steve Perry tho'---the richness is not there yet but the soaring vocals sure are...
Still trying to make plans for Vegas... :) :) :)

How does a new album and video relegate them to "tribute band" status, numb nuts?
It isn't out yet dumbass and remeber what neal said it was the perry sound they wanted which = tribute band.... moron They Just need to change there name to "The Perry Wannabies"

Tribute band=cover songs. New album=original music. And learn how to spell "remember."
lmao yah will see how far that new album is going to take them ....maybe around the block  and sorry I miss spelled a word...i forgot you get off on little things  yah arnels there for an album...but he's really there for the dirty dozen ....like all the singers before him have been ....(well except jss that was there only hope for originality )Hmmm I wonder when the next Lumpia Festival is????
well maybe if I look at there tour dates I can find that out ....

I'm getting tired of the lumpia references, you know that Filipinos make other great tasting food like:
lechon Image
IMHO tameone's opinions are the ravings of a lunatic, but lumpia still tastes great.
The next time you come up with a post about the new lead singer without referencing a food festival will be a complete shock.

JSS...blah blah blah...only hope for originality

is there even such a thing as a lumpia festival? If he was mexican, would you say he'd play at a burrito festival? thats pretty lame. All I know is this guy can sing his ass off, and this is judging from youtube clips taken in a little club in the Philippines using a videophone. What more if its recorded with a real band and with all that fancy studio editing and sound effects.

Doesn't matter how good Arnel is. It still can't hide the simple fact,

Arnel (or any singer other than SP) + the "Journey" guys (note the quotes) = UNNECESSARY.

They all need to do something else. Explore NEW horizons (preferably with other musicians)...they're supposed to be ARTISTS you know not REGURGITATORS.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

BS, btw.

Geez, where on earth is "artistic integrity" these days?????

The "Journey" guys have no clue of what's in GOOD TASTE.

Leave it alone...do something ELSE.

Exactly. The guy's an amazing singer. Jesus, if he didn't sound like Perry, people'd bitch. If he does sound like him, people call him an imitator. He's NOT Steve Perry. He IS as close as you're going to get and he sounds friggin' amazing. Are you guys deaf? I can remember people falling over themselves when other singers stepped in and they don't hold a candle to this guy. As much as I love Steve Augeri, Arnel's got way more power. Listen to the high note on "Hidin' somewhere in the Night_______". Augeri used to falsetto that note for a long time and then I'm sure Deen was helping as well later on. Regarding this recording, I like the way he sounded before. His vowels have elongated a bit and there's a bit of a Queensryche sound to his vowels (which I hate, I had the same teacher Geoff Tate did) and the vowels don't sound as natural (like speech) as he did before. Still, the guy's got a great voice and if anybody will save Journey, it will be this guy.

Neal. Jon. LET THIS GUY FRONT THE BAND AND GIVE HIM THE CHANCE TO DO IT. JSS tried to do it and you canned him. Jss was a great front guy. This guy could be your rebirth. Hopefully, you won't f it up.

Huge JSS fan, loved how he sounded with Journey at the shows we saw, and what happened sucks, BUT, have to say.....

The power in Arnel's voice here is incredible.

It's eerie how close to SP he sounds & it isn't forced - Arnel has such a huge voice coming from a small package...very much like SP had.

I don't doubt that the concert goers are going to be happy with what they hear...as for me, it is difficult. I have too much of an affinity with SP to jump on board...yet again. I obviously can't fault Arnel because this is his own natural voice & the casual fans want the sound they know from the radio/CDs...but, no one can ever top what SP did. He poured his soul into the songs, created them and drew people like me in. I may hear a similar sound with AP, but it's never going to have the same internal effect. AP will garner his own fans, just as SA & JSS did...people will have a good time & throw up at the concerts & forget their problems...life goes on.

Now I must go paint & blast some Frontiers, or Escape, or ROR...
