ABSOLUTELY!!!

The only difference between a cult and a religion are the number of members. Scary thought.

All religions are cults by definition. The fact that some get that tag, while others do not, is ridiculous.

From Websters:

Cult:
1: formal religious veneration : worship
2: a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents
3: a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also : its body of adherents
4: a system for the cure of disease based on dogma set forth by its promulgator <health cults>
5 a: great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book); especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad b: the object of such devotion c: a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion

People only seem to pay attention to item 3.

By the way, here's a good religion question: doesn't it piss you off that a lot of the money you're putting into the collection plate is being used for lawyers to defend Catholic clergymen that are on trial for child molestation? I ain't a Catholic and it pisses me off. It's neato that the pope is "ashamed". If you're so darned ashamed, you should be making sure these bastards get the largest penalties they can get, not paying for their lawyers.

God (whoever your God is) is one thing and a good thing.

Religion is something else completely different and I cannot believe in this century with all the bad that organized religion (pick one!) has been behind, that people are still willing to follow blindly. Religion has driven so many people to commit heinous acts that it's staggering.

Another item, Bush went and had a meeting with the Pope the other day. Who knows, maybe he helped him change his oil in the Pope Mobile. Why didn't Bush also meet with the Dalai Lama who was in Washington a few days ago? Next time Bush uses the word "Crusade" in a speech, maybe we should pay closer attention.

Love ya all.

Later... I just saw SJ's post about child molesters. Crap, I'm always late. Anyway, I'll leave my comment where it is... It can never be said too much that churches shouldn't be paying to get these guys off (take it how you want because either way, that's what they're doing, isn't it?)

All religions may be cults, but not all cults are religions. It takes more than 1000 members to be classified as a religion.

I heard one of the things that Jones guy was trying to do was become a religion but couldn't get enough members. That was part of what led him to the Jonestown Massacre...so I heard. Don't know if it is true.

Do you really think it's the religion and not the power-hungry scumbags using it that are to blame?

Hey pin dick, if you didn't notice, there was an "OT" warning preceding the thread title, so if you're bothered by things that don't pertain to Journey stay out of the fuckin' "OT" threads. This can be accomplished by simply not clicking on said links.

Why, yes, it is! You know your coffee well, and it's not decaf -- it's the ultra-dark roast, with a rich, full-bodied flavor. Hand-picked by Don Valdez. Good to the last drop!
