Graeham's solo album is great. Been listening to that thing since last May. Really like "I'd Rather Be With You" and "Someone's Taken Our History" from there. Hope to see you review this one, Andrew.

The Carpenters, Karen Carpenter was/is the best female vocalist ever, check her out for vocal abilities and harmonies to die for. Queen and others obviously got a lot of inspration there and in arrangement too.

The Eagles of course, and next I've always loved The Who's harmonies...I thought the combo of Roger Daltrey/Pete Townsend were amazing.

Wow, can't believe he's got another one already. Similar in sound to The Days Ahead?

They were mentioned 17 posts up.

Are you high or stupid? She was good but she isn't no Celine Dion, Leanne Rymes or Barbra Steisand.

Andrew, if you have occasion to talk with these guys again, PLEASE tell them to come play for us here in the U.S.

I had a nice email exchange with Beeb Birtles a few years ago, and at that time he was hoping to have the group come here on a "nostalgia bill" with one or two other acts at that time, but things fell through. Problem seems to be promoters question their marketability given the fact that they have no rights to the LRB name anymore.

C'mon, Dean...Karen Carpenter may not have been "best ever," but her voice was pure silk. And the Carpenters' harmonies were impeccable.

Keep it real, brother...

the Little River Band.

I agree, with the Eagles and Boston a close 2nd & third.

I was going to post that about LRB.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=XuSi9g7XoJY

I would also add Chicago.

Saw LRB (or should I say BSG) last year...still amzing and still note for not perfect. And today Graham Goble sent me his new solo album in the mail. Met him backstage at Toto in March. Sounds pretty smooth as expected.

Many won't like this, but the current LRB have some awesome harmony vocals as well. One of the most professional sounding bands I have ever seen or heard.

BSG still sound good too, although I preferred John Farnham on lead vox w/ LRB.

I will agree with these mentioned earlier:

Night Ranger - Really, really, reeeeallly good, but not great like the Eagles or LRB. One of my favorite live bands, and they will always rock because Brad Gillis is a rock god!

King's X - Decent harmonies for a 3 piece hard rock band, in an Alice In Chains kind of way. I like them.

Firehouse - One of the best harmony vox bands of the 80's hair-band genre.

Dokken - They weren't bad at all until they lost Jeff Pilson, and then Don toasted his voice. Another one of my favorite hair-bands (in their prime). It's makes me sad hearing their recent live clips.

Oh lookie here? Mr Asshole decided to stroll in. Cocksucker. This doesn't concern you. You can't tell me Lippard, Night Ranger, House of Lords and Firetribe, whoever the fuck THAT is, have good harmonies. Pure shit.

None of these come close to Karen Carpenter. Are you saying Phil Ramone ( if you know who that is ) who produced her solo album is wrong too. Phil was a big fan of her voice, a few years ago a tribute album of carpenters music was released, a heavy metal version of their songs, try that with Dion/Streisand. Everyone involved said how much they were influenced by The Carpenters music.

Its ok to come out of the closet and admit you " get it " I'm not limited to one genre of music,...... Doh!

Edit : Most bands mentioned so far are the usual by the book. Get real and tell whom you really admire. Everyone knows Journey, Chicago, Nightranger. The original poster mentioned there must be bands out there that can harmonise as good as Queen. We all know and love the ones already mentioned, maybe list a few closet classics, so what if you get a bagging, who cares.

What about Abba for harmonies, writing, producing and studio innovation, not cool enough, yet any musician worth his salt will tell you ( if their honest ) they were influenced by them too. Remember The Black Sweden a cool ( tongue in cheek maybe ) Rock CD version of Abba music.

Oh yep, I like The Sweet for layered falsetto harmonies too, another big innfluence on bands today and on the by the book bands listed.
