Hey Duncan, welcome!

YouTube ain't working well for me but I'll be sure to look up that band one way or another soon. Thanks for the heads up on that song too, anything smooth/progressive/bassy is bound to appeal to me!

I was wondering what you guys think of the Rippingtons. They can come across as a bit smooth jazz, but live they are phenomenal. Progrocker - check out Kim Stones bass run at the start of this track. Russ Freemans guitar tone is awesome and he plays a great melodic guitar solo. Tony Morales on drums and Steve Reid on percussion are great players.

I'd forgotten about the Rippingtons for a while. it's good to hear them again.

Hi there,

I was hoping you might drop into this thread. From just being a lurker I always thought you had a good taste in music and seemed open to something different. Early Rippingtons (when rokken was in the band) is good, but they got really bland. However, if you want hear real pro's playing live they are the boys.

Have you come across a band called Sieges Even? If not I absolutlely guarantee you will love them. I think i klnow what you like. Check out their website and add there new cd "Paramount" to your growing list of Cd's to buy.

By the way I also gace you a heads up in the Andrew appreciation, or something like that, thread. Check out the Jimmy Barnes track featuring Randy Jackson on bass. I posted the wrong link but somebody put me right.

Bradley Stoke, North Bristol. A huge housing development that went into massive negative equity about 12 years ago. That's when it got the name Sadly Broke. Where are you? Are you going to the Cardiff (Journey) gig?

Many moons ago I used to get guitar lessons off a guy in Cirencester called Paul Cordell. He was a graduate of the Guitar Institute of Technology in LA. He wanted to teach me, but I used to pay money just to hear him play. I used to take my cd's along and he would transcribe stuff in seconds that i had been pouring over for weeks. He introduced me to Robben Ford (Talk to Your daughter). Anyway hadn't seen the guy for 10 years. Robben Ford plays the Cheese & Grain in Frome last year and who do I bump into but Paul Cordell. He says, as if I'd seen him yesterday, glad you listened to at least one lesson!

The G 'n' R track is a classic. As you probably know their drummer Matt Sorum was in Jeff Paris' band before that, which is more my thing:

The other link you put up said that it wasn't availble to view in the UK. What was it?

Blueskies!! that is totally my thing. I think i am one of the few people in the UK that like (or heard of) this guy. He was Lisa Loebs guitar player, I think. Playing it now, kinda like John Mayer.

Thanks. I notice you live in the San Francisco area. I am doing a road trip around Northern Cali from 4th august to 25th August. Do you know of any bands that are playing in the region during this period?

Wow! You'll love northern CA - wine country, San Francisco, Yosemite.....actually Yosemite is a little south.....

I will keep tabs on the concerts and let you know who's coming around. I know Journey will be here at the end of September. I'll keep an eye on the San Francisco Chronicle, they should have the "concert season" listings shortly!
