Ya'll are missing OUT if you haven't listened to ANY Augeri-era music, let alone the greatness that is Generations.

Easily.
The new one's decent, but as BigJ said, it seems slightly pussified now maybe?

I'm sure if I heard the Arnel version first I'd still LOVE the song.

BUT... this new version... pales in direct comparison to the first one. It's chopped up and skewed, the "flow" seems more interrupted, Friga's piano is higher in the mix AND it drowns out the prog jam at the end with its fruity bubbling. PLUS Arnel's vocals, while good, lack the DELIVERY that Augeri had. Augeri's the shit.
I agree, that piano part has a gay Liberace feel to it, I see Friga in a pink mood while playing that

Friga probably thinks the Heartland is nothing but a bunch of rednecks and imbreds, and has a pompous sneer when he tickles the ivories for this song
Lol, then he downs his two glasses of chardonnay, say "them peasents, then watches some gay porn, puts on his little nittey and tucks himself in for the night

I can't take Friga seriously at all. He's too much of an alcoholic, just like his peasant fans. I'd like to see him sipping his chadonnay at a biker bar or something. Hahaha.

Sorry dude - Generations is gathering dust on my CD rack. The only Journey CD that does - its poor poor poor - apart from Place in your heart - which is great.

Generations was pure tosh. There was a small amount of chocolate amongst the shit but you had to dig deep and even that wasn't tasty enough to get rid of the awful taste!

+1. :D

Hey, they're going for a much older, Kenny G loving audience, you're gonna get some "fruitiness" in the tunes. That's a given. I personally don't get it, but whatever.

Wow, I just don't agree at all with this. I've always said that FITH was long, boring, and toooooo slooooooow. Easily topped in my book by The Place In Your Heart, We Will Meet Again, To Be Alive Again, Higher Place, I Got A Reason, World Gone Wild, Nothin' Comes Close, both Deen tunes on Generations, etc.

It's all opinion, though, and good fodder for discussion.

Man, you take State of Grace and Walking Away From The Edge from Red 13, and add The Place In Your Heart to the Generations songs you listed, polish em up with Revelations-caliber production and you have a KILLER 8 song album. I don't listen to Generations much mainly because of the awful production, but I'm definitely in the Augeri FITH camp. Even jamming along to both tunes on my guitar, it's a lot more fun to play the Augeri version - everything is more urgent. Plus, am I the only one who feels the backing vocals on the original gave the chorus a lot more power than the new one?

Hahah, I believe FITH is a 9.5, and most Augeri tunes rank at least a 7 in my book.

For the record, my ranking of Augeri era tunes:

1. Remember Me
2. Higher Place
3. Faith in the Heartland
4. Out of Harms Way
5. State of Grace
6. Livin' to Do
7. World Gone Wild
8. All The Things
9. Signs of Life
10. To Be Alive Again

Considering LD started a thread about "Losing Faith In Arnel's Abilities" I don't think he loses any credibility over a wise crack about Augeri. Now people that wobble around the country earning frequent diner miles at Sizzler while they stalk he who wiggles in red pants, are another story.

I can only say - i admire the width of your palette - which, i did before this thread came up anyway - when you get to my age (old) it may become like mine where fewer bands and fewer songs give you that fire - i have to say tho - i am loving the new album.

Not counting Revelation, simply because I would like to hear it at least ten times before I truly compare it with the others, I have to say that Generations is my favorite Journey album since Frontiers.

I suspect that if we were to remove "Every Generation" "Pride Of The Family" "In Self Defense" and "Gone Crazy" that a lot of people would like it better because it would have a more consistent JOURNEY feel to it.

For the record, I myself do like those songs, but I see how some people feel that they don't sound enough like JOURNEY songs.

I slightly prefer the original version of "Faith In The Heartland." I like some of the guitar and drums that were added to the new version at the end of the song. But overall I prefer the Augeri version.

I'm on record as saying that "Generations" was a complete abortion of a CD! It sucked ass! In fact, it couldn't have sucked more if they tried! That said, "Faith In The Heartland" was the only redeeming song on that CD. I also like Augeri's version better. When it comes to pure power...there is ZERO comparison. Augeri had zero power in his voice, but sang FITH very well. While we're on the subject of re-records...what the fuck was with the stupid shit at the end of "Wheel In The Sky"????

My CDs haven't come in yet. What happened? What did they do with the re-recording of that one?

I was hoping they'd do a studio version of the live jam session they do to that song, with the kicked-up riff and all.

Yes, there were a couple of really great original songs in the Augeri's era.

FITH is surely one of them.

Here is my top 10

-Higher Place
-State of Grace (bad production, I guess that this song should have been redone instead of FITH)
-World Gone Wild
-Faith In The Heartland
-With Your Love
-The Time
-The Place In Your Heart
-Knowing That You Love Me (underated ballad, sunked by a poor production and... I had to admit, the limit of Augeri's talent)
-Better Together (again week production sunked this one)
-To Be Alive Again
