I can't help it, but there's a part of me that thinks you suck. Seriously, to condone and applaud this treatment of a band member is just bullshit.

Oh lighten up everyone...I was just fucking about and being glib. Of course I don't condone tired and emotional Loons launching themselves at vulnerable band members...no matter how noble the cause
(better insert one of these: ).

um, yeah. Gee, maybe next time someone will just take him out....

f'n psychos. That's just wrong.

I hope Journey's security are paying attention.

What a shitty thing to say. Arnel is new to this still and it may have scared the shit out of him. As crazy as people can be about bands (dimebag darrel incident comes to mind) this isnt one fucking bit funny. If I had been there I would have GLADLY helped security properly dispose of this bitch baton to the head style ! IMHO they shouldnt be playing such small clubs with their popularity starting to boom again. Too easy for a fucking loon to rush the stage and do who knows what...

Didn't a member of Journey get hit with a bottle once on stage? I remember seeing that a long time ago on VHS, but I forget who. Maybe it's just my imagination, but I could swear I saw that once.

Neal got popped on the boiler with a beer bottle. Perry went nuts. It's on Youtube somewhere I think.

noble cause? your sense of right and wrong is gravely skewed dude. joke or not, you're worse than those loons you're talking about for even expressing such thoughts in a public forum.

No shit, folks...lighten the hell up! Matt was just joking. And I'm quite sure "Arnie" can handle himself. He's a big boy (well, not literally, but you know what I mean...)

BTW- to compare this little incident to what happened to Dime is at best a huge exageration and at worst terribly insulting.

Hang on a minute Liquid Drummer...you just can't compare this harmless and comic incident with Arnel - which turned out not to be true anyway - with the Dimebag Darrell incident. Darrell was murdered by a fan onstage. Arnel bumped his lip with a microphone. So you're either being the worst kind of drama queen about this or you're simply being patronising and mumsy in the extreme. "It may have scared the shit out of him..."? Give me a break. A middle-aged Irish lady in a frock shouting "Where's Steve Perry?" I think the security guards can rest easy....

Honestly LD...I don't want to come between you and your fix of righteous indignation but you really need to regain some perspective here.

Just a quick knee jerk reaction. Perhaps you are correct. I just dont have very much faith in humanity at the moment and I really believe that people are just fucking nuts these days and that anything is possible.

I watched the clip, I think it's just like what the journeymusic.com board poster said. The lady wanted to pull Arnel closer to give him a kiss; he was resisting and pulled back; got hit by his mic on the rebound. Everybody (Neal, Arnel) was smiling and laughing -- didn't look like much danger there.

If anything, I think Arnel is enjoying this new-found adulation. Kind of like the rock star with the groupies. Where does it show she was mad and yelling for SP? Like someone else said, I think that story was made up for sensationalism and only served to put Perry fans in a bad light -- the loons.

Looked like an intoxicated fan trying to get a hug and a kiss. I seriously doubt this had anything to do with Perry, expecting Perry or being a Perry fan. Terrible security, at any rate. Inexcusable for him to be left there fighting for his mic with some freckle-faced Mick.

I don't get it.
If this was June 1998, I can see there being some confusion.
We didn't all have the internet, etc then.

But come on, they've had three singers in that time... how can you be fan enough to want to go - and how can you be THAT into Perry without ever so much as looking up the band's website or reading about them? If you're that upset about Perry's absence that you're going to attack people over it, you can't have me believe you aren't following what the band is doing.

I smell either a bullshit (or at least partial bullshit) story or a person who needs to be locked up permanently.

Exactly!

After watching the clip, I don't believe the fan was angry or in the attack mode at all. Just looked like an over zealous fan combined with lousy security. As for the account from the fan who witnessed the event, just more internet blather. Probably just another case of someone with an over active imagination seeing/hearing something that wasn't there.

Yep. That's why I called (partial) bullshit.

Its funny how even first hand accounts can't be relied on.
Somewhere on the 'net is some guys first hand account of something Perry did at a show.
And the audio is nothing even close to the same ballpark as what the dude who was there claimed he saw.
This is exactly how rumors and urban legends are born.
