I also had a set of the very first ever Star Wars figures, called the "Early Bird Edition" and available only thru a breakfast cereal offer. I believe the 4-piece set was Luke, Chewie, R2-D2 and Obi-Wan Kenobi. I found them about 9 years ago, and each one had "1976" stamped as the date of their release. Unfortunately, I lent my entire newly-discovered set to a "friend" who was a collector/dealer to sell, and never saw them again... a-hole!

Back then, the first 3 in the series were just pure MAGIC, and I was so excited when the new trilogy was coming around. But alas... IMO Lucas has overcommercialized it into the ground, and the magic is 120% GONE... Everything has been so incredibly overexposed that there is no more mysticism to the Jedi, no chills at the sound of a light-saber, and no more awe when Yoda frowns and knits his brow before he kicks ass.... the magic is gone.... it's pure cheese now. I'm not interested in seeing the new animated movie, nor in watching the TV show.

For me, Star Wars was really the first 3 episodes, and the last two of the most recent trilogy were especially rotten to me. I actually seem to be one of the only people on the planet who enjoyed "Phantom Menace" above the other two.

I think they all three blew major chunks! I was a PHANTOM apologist when it first came out, but when I watched it again on video...UgghHH!!! Everyone constantly blows smoke up REVENGE OF THE SITH's ass, and yeah, it didn't suck as hard as I and II, but that's HARDLY criteria for a great film (Hey! It doesn't SUCK! It must be GREAT!!!)
God, the first three were brilliant. Even JEDI, which despite the Ewoks, was a damned cool film, and contained the single best scene in the series (Luke's final fight w. Vadar / showdown with the Emporer...)

Im with Larry and Ripper on the KARATE KIDS, expecially I - THat's one of those films I have to watch every time I surf to it on the TV.
Rockys? Gimmie I and BALBOA and call it a set! LOVED Balboa- really underated, stark emotional film, that those of us who find time creeping up on 'em really can relate to.

I will now switch the GEEK mode to OFF- good night all...

I listen to Motley Crue. Do you merely listen to Star Wars? Besides, I'd never want to be lumped in with the vast majority of people that dig Star Wars and Star Trek. In case you haven't noticed they're extremely abnormal. Kind of like partial birth abortions that somehow survived.
