sorry to hear that man. I used to have 2 of those Australian Shepherds and they are extremely smart dogs.

Just not smart enough to look both ways.
Please everyone keep your animals fenced in, on a chain or on a leash. It's sad to see a collared pet in the road knowing someone just lost a family member.

Oreo was fenced. I have my entire 10 acres fenced, but when my wife/kids and I went to work, he couldn't stand being alone and apparently dug under and got out. Went to the neighbor's house who is home during the day and was hit crossing the road. I live in the country in West Texas, it's not like I live in town.

Sorry to hear about about the loss of your freind. I like animals more than most{not all] people that I met. Now is not the time, but when you are done greving, Id get a puppy.It will help. It did for me anyway.

Looks like your second thoughts aren't any better then your first. TOTALLY UNCOOL! Your making assumptions when your clueless to the circumstances. The man is already grieving for his beloved pet and you have to come in and try to put a guilt trip on his head on top of it? Unbelievable how you rushed so quickly to judgement. In your effort to be condescending about this you have proven one thing....you should take longer to think before you post...I see that you may be too limited intellectually but try and go for that third thought.

Hey..some idiots are just totally out of line so ignore them....it was a tragic accident. After my dad died I inherited his dog....he was a chow chow..a bred that tends to bond to one person only for life. Every chance that dog got to slip out the gate he did....he was a runner...took him to obedience school...tried everything but I couldn't break him of it......he kept trying to run home and find my dad. Then one day when my son opened the gate he slipped out and ran ......we went after him but he ran across a busy street and got struck and killed.....it was no one's fault..the driver's, nor ours.....or even the dog for his love and loyalty for my father.
I know this is still very fresh for you but Gunbot suggested that you may want to have Oreo's portrait done. If or when your ever ready and may ever want something like that done just let me know. I'm very sorry to hear of your loss...my condolences to you and your family.

Hey thanks very much. I buried him next to "his tree" yesterday and my daughters put flowers on his grave. Everyone held it together for the most part, but when my six year old, Jenna, started choking up talking about Orea, it got rough for awhile.

Thanks to my MR family, you made a big difference. You're an amazing group.

Not saying you are but I wouldn't rush out and get another dog for little while, at least...let Oreo have his place in your girls hearts....let them cry and talk about him for awhile...you have to grieve for him before you can move forward...it will keep his place in your hearts and he will always remain with you there. Give your girls a hug and take care, bro.
