thanks Layton. my granddaughter (and her parents) are bugging out from Houston to OKC tomorrow by plane.

we are boarded up here in Corpus. my hubby fell yesterday and injured his already messed up chest cavity so we are stuck. we are fairly far inland so we'll be ok.

thanks for the report on Kathy and Megan.

Stay safe Debbie! I'll be thinking and praying for you guys! I've been there and I know what it's like and it's so not fun. Hope you don't get the worst of it!

I don't know where everyone is situated.:?
So - this is a general message to anyone in the path of any of these bloody bastard hurricanes -

Looks like Debbie may be out of the direct line of fire now, but Galveston/Houston are in for it. 25 foot storm surge predicted in some places ... :(

Thankee. :D Snapped at an Eagles concert Monday night in San Antonio. They were awesome, awesome, awesome.

At least something good happened in Texas this week. Unlike Ike; this is going to be very bad very soon. :(

Three hour show, over 30 songs including James Gang and solo stuff from Henley and Fry; it was great. They didn't say anything particularly political that I remember, though the video for Long Road Out of Eden made quite a visual statement.

Fry was doing emcee duties and had some funny one liners, like, "Welcome to the Eagles Assisted Living Tour." and, "Yes, I'm from Detroit, where mother is only half a word."

I am headed for Dallas today, joining my sister and mother to fly to New York for a fall foliage cruise celebrating Mom's 85 birthday.

I will be out of harms way, but this storm is grim news for all the people who live in low lying areas of Galveston and Harris Counties and who may not have the ability to or have had enough notice to get to safety. Everyone thought this one was going in to Corpus until yesterday.

Yes, they did; I think it was the third song. :)

Here's a really terrible visually but good audio clip I took of the very last song, Desperado. (The security folks were really policing the cameras.):

I have a good friend in Houston... she hasn't left and says she's too far north to get hit by anything bad, but I'm still worried and I've been checking in with her every day, several times a day. :?

Depending on what track the storm takes, that may just not be true. I was in Houston during Alicia in 1983 (with an 8th month old baby). The storm went into Galveston and headed right up the ship channel. The eye passed right over me. The wind blew so hard that it drove rain through the microscopic cracks around the windows in a brick suburban house (it looked like it was coming straight through the wall). I can still hear the unearthly howl of the wind that went on for hours. No power for days (weeks for some areas), all the utilities poles down, roofs off of houses. Glass from the skyscrapers in downtown Houston covering the streets. Massive flooding. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Alicia

Has anyone else heard that they are saying that if you stay in Galveston, the entire island may be submerged and you are facing near certain death if you stay? That being said, that idiot, Geraldo Rivera, is reporting from there. What a moron.

That's true! We live in Orlando, which is considered inland, and we had 3 within 3 weeks a few years back, a couple of which where the eye went through too, and it was horrible. I mean we stayed but we had wind driven rain coming through our windows too, and wet carpets everywhere. My part of town was lucky not to lose power for a long time, but several areas did. And huge oak trees in some areas, that had been there for 50 plus years just toppled over. We were amazed at the damage that could be done this far inland.

Hope everything will be okay Linda! I'll be thinking about you!! Good you are leaving!
