Lou Gramm or David coverdale in their prime would've been the best choices.

I'm sure there are a few Plant clones here:

He is singing onstage even worse than Plant at this point. His band is doing most of the singing...or DC is pointing the mic at the crowd. He nails it in the studio, but loses his voice onstage. Just check out any recent You Tube clips of Whitesnake live. It could be Michael Swann from Led Zepagain. Page knows him, has sat in with the band and the whole band was at the reunion show:

I've noticed that he does that a lot and I, too, attributed it to his diminished vocal capabilities.

1. Have Neil Schon recommend Jeff Scott Soto to Jimmy Page as a replacement for Robert Plant.
2. Page & Co. agree with JSS as a great replacement for Plant -- JSS becomes the new lead singer for Led Zep.
3. JSS finds out it was Neil who recommended him. Figures Zep is a better fit for him anyway.
4. Schon and JSS become buds again. All is forgiven. They hug it out.
5. Page and Schon discuss touring possibilities.
6. Led Zeppelin and Journey announce a co-headlining world tour for 2009.
7. The "Whole Lotta Love" tour hits all continents (except Antarctica), selling out the biggest venues.
8. The tour gets rave reviews.
9. All the fans love it.
10. All the band members get filthy rich.

There. Problem solved. You can send my "finder's fee" to my last known address of record.

Let the dead bones lay dead otherwise.

Lip synching?

Sounds like "tapegate" all over again

Take this however you want based on the source, but it looks like things may be back on track with Plant...

"Have Neil Schon recommend Jeff Scott Soto to Jimmy Page as a replacement for Robert Plant. "

wtf? Another "throw JSS in another band" comment!?!!? jesusa, the dude just cut a solo cd, enjoy the man for what he brings on his own. If he's ever going to make it, it's on his own, not in some other flipping band. jeesh....

Robert Plant agrees to join Led Zeppelin for tour
Sep 26 2008

ROCK legends Led Zeppelin are finally set to embark on a reunion tour after West Bromwich-born lead singer Robert Plant caved in and agreed to join the rest of the band, it was reported today.

Guitarist Jimmy Page, aged 64, bassist John Paul Jones, 62, and drummer Jason Bonham, 42, son of the late Led Zep drummer John Bonham, from Redditch, were resigned to going on the road without Plant.

They even rehearsed with stand-in singers in preparation for a tour next year following the massive success of a one-off concert at London’s 02 Arena last December.

It is understood that the rehearsals for a replacement lead vocalist finally persuaded Plant, aged 60, who grew up and began his musical career around Kidderminster in Worcestershire, to return to the Led Zeppelin line-up.

Plant, who has been spending a lot of time working with country singer Alison Kraus, helped celebrate last October’s re-opening of Birmingham Town Hall.

A source close to Led Zeppelin said: “The rest of the band had all but given up on Robert joining them, but they were determined to go ahead and had started to seriously explore other avenues.

“When Robert realised the band were serious about doing it without him, he realised he couldn’t face the thought of not being involved.”

ROCK legends LED ZEPPELIN are set for a reunion tour after singer ROBERT PLANT finally caved in and agreed to join them.
Guitarist JIMMY PAGE, 64, bassist JOHN PAUL JONES, 62, and drummer JASON BONHAM, 42, had resigned themselves to touring without Plant.

They even rehearsed with stand-in singers — and one American was so impressive they were confident they could hit the road next year without Plant.

That was what finally persuaded him to return.

A source revealed: “The rest of the band had all but given up on Robert joining them, but they were determined to go ahead so had started to seriously explore other avenues.

“When Robert realised the band were serious about doing it without him, it made him think long and hard.

“He realised he couldn’t face the thought of not being involved.

“The band were over the moon when he told them the news.

“They are now forging ahead with the tour plans and they can’t wait to get on the road.”

The tour, set for next summer, follows the massive success of their one-off reunion show at London’s O2 Arena in December.

Led Zep, who have sold more than 300million albums worldwide, formed in 1968 and split up in 1980 when drummer John Bonham — father of Jason — died aged 32.

Rolling Stone magazine dubbed them the biggest band of the ’70s.

I still smell a very clever (though predictable), marketing gimmick here to generate controversy and buzz...

Without a doubt. This tour was sealed months ago.

I think you are right. Jason Bonham doesn't leave a permanent gig in Foreigner in hopes of doing something with Led Zeppelin at some point.

And things just don't happen as rapidly as these past two news releases indicate -- not without lawyers being mentioned in the story... haha! But it worked... we are talking about it, aren't we? :)

I wonder if Arnel was in on it or if Shirley realized that throwing Arnel's name in there would just make it travel faster on boards like this one.
