I'm remember reading that article. What a good neighborhood guy. It still doesn't explain the name change though.

I can't find an explanation either, he just did it. It's no big deal a lot of famous peeps change their names!!!
I can verify that at the age of 8 he was still using FRIGA!!!

In the Time 3 book for songwriting credits to Only The Young it saids, "S.Perry, J. Friga, N.Schon." All the other songs have J.Cain. I never noticed this, probably because until 4 years ago I never knew the man's old name was Fr-ga (sorry Jon). I wonder why and how for that matter it is like that. If anyone knows if there is a reason behind this or if it's just a typo (which I can't see how that would've come about), I would like to know...as others I'm sure.

I had heard that at the beginning of his musical career, a manager suggested a name change. So, he went to the phone book to find a name. Flipped open a page, and put his finger on "Cain"..
One question, for all you peeps of Italian ancestry...is 'Friga' Italian? And is it pronounced: Frig-gah OR Free-jah?? The Italian way would be the latter one.
Folks mostly pronounce SA's last name wrong. Saying Awe-jerry, when it is Awe-jeery. ( In my book he is just " Awesome",.lol!).
I do believe Jonathan's name was legally changed, as his whole family ,
including the kids, use "Cain".
And yeah, SP did call him "Jay"...which is short for any name beginning with 'J'.

At least that is better than, "Beaky Peartree"!!
