I think more because you want to do it. No need to do it, the originals are timeless. If you feel like you want to try a different take on it, do it. Put it out there for the fans. Many will hate it, some might like it.

Perhaps there were differences in approach with producers, other members of the band at the time (ROR excluded in this example), etc. that would make you re-think it. It isn't to try to "improve" on the original. Sometimes people drive a different road to get to the same place they have gone for years. Just to get another perspective.

So it still says, "Hi this is Steve, Sherrie and I are on the road with Journey...please leave a detailed message and I will get back to you right after the Frontiers tour"???

Steve has came in for Sony and remastered all the older stuff to his exact specs. He also has friends who contribute to this board so he probably knows full well the attitude of his die hard fans when it comes to the Re-records. I also think the last thing he wants to do is be seen copying Journey's latest business model.

On the surface, sounds like a great idea. I just don't think he would ever do it ... judging by all his previous remarks about the songs being a special time and memory in the past.

This is what Journey should have done, re-work the classics, instead of having Arnel sing it word for word, note for note. Ridiculuous!

But it sold well! Sales = Money...not that I think Steve Perry needs money, he managed his quite well from what I can see.

I've changed it about 12 times over the last day so I can't remember. I'm having my own private Idaho moment between us.

Yes, I realize it is a catch-22 for the J-boys. I have 1st-hand knowledge that some people bought Rev just to hear those songs they remembered sung again by the new guy (it could have been anybody for all they cared), and absolutely no interest in the new songs. If the old hits were re-worked to something other than how they remembered SP had sung them, I'm certain these people would have been pissed.

I don't bet, but I would bet that SP would NEVER even think of re-recording the Classics.

you only need to redo something, if you fuck it up the first time.
Why would Perry ever have an urge to do such a thing, given the perfection he laid down on tape the first time around?

By redoing these tracks, schonbag and twinkletoes exposed more than just judgmental weakness....

I'm for it.
Might be his only alternative as he seems to sweat blood trying to drum up originals.

So it still says, "Hi this is Steve, Sherrie and I are on the road with Journey...please leave a detailed message and I will get back to you right after the Frontiers tour"???

"Hello. This is Steve Perry's lawyer. Leave your message and I'll get with Steve. After we consult, we'll probably take a few months, or years, to make a decision. We might get back to you then. p.s., Is your confidentiality agreement up to date?"

Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!
