Yes, I have read he writes his songs using a bass guitar. On the road, he would pick up Ross's when an idea comes into his head. I believe that's how WalksLikeALady and TheParty'sOver were written.

When he collaborated with KennyLoggins and came up with Don'tFightIt, they don't were sitting down, each with a guitar.

I think when JonCain came into the band, the songwriting dynamics changed within the band.

You're talking about as an inspirational prop right? Neil Giraldo did the actual guitar work on the recording.

San Bernardino, CA in 1977. Cracking show.

Interesting, I've never heard of that show floating around. Got a link?

I noticed the picture used of Perry playing bass, hadn't seen the pic before. I saw another pic taken of him in his home once holding an acoustic guitar. This pic made me curious so...just stopping by because I realized I can't recall having seen any video footage of Perry playing an instrument other then keeping the beat on the keys in the '81 concert footage during one song and since this is the place to ask....
Does anyone know if video footage exist's with Perry playing guitar or drums?

Yes, there is a boot video I have of the group in Japan, where he helps on Keys on Departure tour, I believe,

He does that in the Escape DVD as well. Although I think he just stands there holding the same chord the whole time.

I think at the end of Precious Time, he mimes playing the organ for a bit while Gregg is on the harmonica.

Precious Time. Look at Steve go!!

I was talking about the writing meeting when Steve & Kenny sat down to come up with a song for Kenny's upcoming solo album -- not actual studio recording. Steve talked about the whole experience in an old interview article archived in a SP fan site (sorry too lazy to go searching for it). He even went on to reveal that the studio work for the song was already worked up and recorded by Kenny & the studio. They sent him the tape, and he added his vocal parts after the fact.

 My favorite is during the first part of the '82 DOTG performance of "Separate Ways".....I like to call that particular air guitar moment "Rocking chair Perry" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7uGcACBuIo

I think its like 30 seconds into it.
