Creed was far better than Pearl Jam and though Stapp isn't a great singer, he's still far better than Eddie Vedder.
Is there a difference?

You guys are out of your freaking minds.
A "Poor man's PJ" was my impression of Creed
as well, although I LOVE Tremonti's playing.

Stapp isn't anywhere near Vedder's league.
Sure, Stapp may "sing" better or have better "pitch" but
NO ONE, outside of Dylan, Springsteen & Neil young, can
infuse more emotion and honesty in a song than Vedder.

Vedder has NEVER been a "singer". He's a "storyteller" of the
highest pedigree.

I agree with what I heard Yngwie say about Vedder's singing when he was played a clip of a Pearl Jam song...Something along the lines of "That sounds like someone sitting on the toilet pushing out a big one."

I've only ever heard one or two Pearl Jam tunes that I like very much at all. The rest is pure dreck.

NEVER liked CREED - I always thought they were absolute crap, I still do, and NO- they don't a candle to Pearl Jam. "My own prison" was an ok tune. The rest? CRAP! And quite frankly, they made some of the most laughably bad videos EVER! (and that's qutie a feat in and of itself.)

ALTERBRIDGE is a little better, which gives "creedence" to my theory that Scott Stapp is, and always has been, the problem. What a COMPLETE tool!

Hmm, got given a Creed CD about a month ago that I haven't listened to yet - reading all this makes me wonder if I should expend the energy to even unwrap the damn thing
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

It's kind of funny that some here are taking up for Pearl Jam and dissing Creed when in fact bands like Pearl Jam and Nirvana were responsible for killing off melodic rock, while bands like Creed, possibly indirectly, paved the way to bring some melody back into rock music! While I could listen to a couple of Pearl Jam's songs, I just hated the vocals. Storyteller or not, Eddie Vedder sounded like he tried to cram as many words into the verses that he possibly could! If you enjoy listening to that, to each his own, but give me a Journey CD over anything Pearl Jam has ever put out!

Now, getting back to the Creed VS Alterbridge debate. One thing is clear, Kennedy is a much better vocalist and Scott Stapp. There is no denying that! With that said, I think both bands are great bands! Forget about the vocalists for a second and concentrate on the music itself. Tremonti is an excellent guitarist! I think he let loose a little more on the AB albums than he did the Creed albums. But, like it or not, bands like Creed and Alterbridge have helped to turn fans back on to more melodic rock music! Sure, they may not be the melodic bands we think of historically, but the sound of the music is very listenable, very melodic.

I think some of you guys should listen to Alterbridge's "Watch Over You". Excellent ballad!

He's a highly underrated player. I do know that, for awhile, he was jamming with the likes of Joe Satriani, so he's certainly no average grunge player.

Bands like PJ, Nirvana, AIC and all the other "Grunge" bands did melodic rock a favor back
in the early 90's if they "killed it off" because, by then, melodic rock had gotten to over-processed,
watered-down and had lost most of it's luster. There wasn't anything "genuine' or "honest" or "rebellious"
there anymore. It was all about who could play the most notes in an 8-bar stretch or
who could sing higher. "Grunge" brought things back to reality, stripped it back and put emotion, honesty
and grit back into the music.

Right on, Carl! Preach it brother! Couldn't have said it better. And I LOVE how everyone acts like Eddie Vedder, Kurt Cobain, and Layne Staley got together in some coffee shop in 1990 and said, " Hey I know- Let's KILL MELODICROCK and HAIR METAL! WE'LL START A REVOLUTION! NO MORE GUITAR SOLOS EVER!!!" ( which, btw, is absolute bullshit, as guys Mike McCready Billy Corgan and Jerry Cantrell can wail with the best of them!)

They were just doing their thing, people! Criminey! Yeah, it's a little dark and mopey, but have you ever BEEN to Seattle??? CC Deville and his own self said that the Grunge movement was the best thing to happen to music since Punk in the 70's! And CREED has absolutely NOTHING in common with bands like Journey and Styx. Zip-zero- nada! They are, at best , a watered down, third generation knock off of the Seattle sound...at worst, a psuedo Christian Stone Temple Pilots that appeal to the lowest common denominator. I'll give you Alter Bridge- they're ok, and Tremonti certainly seems to have been holding back when he was in Creed...probably afraid he'd get a big dose of LSD if he didn't! (*lead singer disease)

Sorry- not meaning to sound offensive, I just REALLY hate this band!
