He went through at least 3 different accents in that rant.![]()
On the news they said its a 3 minute audio and he dropped the f-bomb 40 times.
That's one every 4.5 seconds...![]()
Jeremey wrote:PS, why didn't the DP just shut the fuck up and walk away rather than egg Bale on?
I think this was a setup.

I think this was a setup.
No setup and reportedly far from the first time it had happened.
Sorry to confuse the terminology but wasn't Bale merely acting in a movie, not making it? Whilst both could be replaced surely the Director of Photography is as integral to the movie if not more so than Bale in bringing the vision that many hundreds of people had to the big screen. My understanding was the light was out and needed replacing and that is what the DP was discreetly trying to do when spotted. The same rant from Bale would likely have happened if the scene had to be re-shot, Can you imagine how riled he would get about not being told there was a problem until after he completed the scene and was asked to do it all again because of a malfunctioning light?
The Director of Photography was in a no-win situation and there is a very good reason why he wasn't fired or even admonisshed whilst stage hands were already primed and under instruction from the movie's producers to document any further outbursts from Bale.
It's fairly cut and dried, Bale is an overpaid diva with a bad temper and the people skills of a shark.

Fuck that asshole DP, Bale is a professional actor who knows how to make sure his movies hit the mark.
Mch praise to Mr Bale. He is concerned that the movie is great versus hurting someone's feelings. Bravo Mr Bale!

Pure speculation but -
Perhaps because he had a job to do and needed to change the light. Maybe because his job was to stay on the (closed?) set and the person in charge did not give him permission to go? Also because workers were already under instructions from the Producers to record any such outbursts for insurance purposes and when one happened to act as calmly and professionally as possible whilst gathering evidence.
Why didn't Bale just had back to his trailer and avoid looking like a total prick in front of an eventual audience of millions? Probably because the situation was heated and he lost control. Where were his handlers?
To be honest I get the feeling that Bale would have gone after this guy anyway or just saved the anger up until he got back. Better to suffer the 3 minute rant and move on.

Bale told the dude he was a "nice guy." This DP was obviously a douche and wandered on the set unsupervised more than once. All he has to do is get his shit together ONE time, and do the shot. Apparently he walked on the set multiple times. Can't u understand how disturbing this may be for an actor trying to get into character?
I'm not forgiving Bale's outburst, only his frustration. I think today we've gotten more accustomed to making sure we don't hurt people's feelings than making sure we do the job right. That's just my opinion and I'll stop here.

As Director of Photography he walked onto 'his' own set twice to fix a problem. I have a feeling whether the outcome would have been exactly the same even if they had cut or waited. I think the poor guy might have been a bit star struck by Bale and didn't man up enough to have the scene stopped as he knew what the outcome would be. Instead he tried to discreetly solve the lighting problem and we all know what happened there.
Karma.
Like someone else said it only takes a couple of flops before the phone stops ringing.
Vladan wrote:I am with Jeremey on this one. It's a business in the end and making films can be stressful, especially if you nail a scene and some thoughtless unprofessional halfwit is costing everybody lots of $$$, and film isn't cheap by the meter. The DP kept drawing it out, he just kept arguing (very very stupid) as he was trying to justify his actions.
And I am no condoning Christian Bales actions! it's not all glamor, and besides! actors are sometimes crazy, up and down, getting into character and if it is a real demanding role, sometimes after you finished and the print is shipped off for editing, you find yourself still character. And I guess, that's why they get the big bucks. I may not agree with Bales methods, but! I can honestly say the DP was well deserving of an ass kicking, and I doubt we see his name on any closing credits on a major picture in the near future.
Well, I don't know how many people here have been on a movie set? but this stuff happens ALL THE TIME, it's nothing new. This will not ruin Bales career... well because, nobody really gives two shits.
