NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

In my opinion, "Turn Down The World Tonight" is the best Journey song that has been recorded since Perry left.

You know....Like A Sunshower is fucking great....no,love, though. Has that 70s feel. Dunno, maybe its just me. I don't know why the world needs turning down. However if things were more like sunshowers, the world would be a better place....

So "Good Morning Girl" would have been Stay Awhile's little sister?

Nah, they don't sound alike to me. Sunshower and Stay use a lot of the same chords and same meter.
Good Morning Girl's pretty cool though.

I can't refute this because I haven't heard the new one yet. My days of arguing Journey are getting smaller I guess.

Those fuckers won't get a dime from me. In fact, Schon still owes me a 100 bucks for a plane ticket. Cheap fucker.

If I want to hear Journey, I will spin Frontiers or Escape.

Drop "Open Arms" and you might have something.

Back in the 80's, that song was pretty damned good, especially live with Espee on mic. We just are all tired of it. It's better than AATY. AATY has the cheesiest Friga-Cain lyrics ever.

My problem with OA is that it's lacking a true Neal solo. All the rest of the good ones (WYLAW, the aforementioned, AATY etc) have it. That's what keeps me comin back to them sappy ballads

Remember though Perry sang this...

"She was "17"
Beauty queen
I met her in a magazine

Heart of fire
Loves desire
Reachin' out
Higher, higher

Runaway
One more day
A broken hearted child at play
I pray for you
Baby blue

In the name of love
I reach for you

In the darkness comes
The evil of the night
Think about it

You better wait
Stop yourself before you fall
You better wait
Stop before you lose it all
Somewhere there's love

Oh somewhere, somewhere

Precious girl
Little pearl

Temptation is a lonely world
Eyes deceive
They believe
In everything they wanna see, yeah"

Great song but awful, awful lyrics![/quote]
I don't see anything wrong with those lyrics .... truly. Steve's talking about a girl walking the streets. What's so awful about those lyrics? Or ... am I being too much a loon?

Cup, pup, sup! The lyrics are totally twee. I always knew something was off about them but a a girl cracking up laughing at the 'embarrassing lyrics' (her words) during a makeout session pretty much confirmed it for me - and ruined the night! Thanks a lot Steve, you dick!

Agreed. And that's why Journey haven't done stellar ballad since IMO. Perry needs to be there as he was that "key ingredient" this band has been missing all these years. Jonathan Cain just turns the ballads into mush, with cheesy lyrics, that just sound like a Bryan Adams demo that didn't make the cut for the obvious reasons (example: the Arrival ballads) talk about painful right there, it just makes you cringe.

Though the rockers Journey have produced in the recent years have been pretty good, it's the ballads that have been awful and holding them back IMO, there just no other way to describe it. When this band was more relevant "The 80's" - Open Arms charted higher than any other Journey song.

'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

AATY is a pretty good ballad. I seem to remember most folks on here creaming in their pants when they heard it last year. I wonder if it's the same people comin out of the woodwork to bash it now?

I'm with YoungJRNY - WYLAW is the best ever.

I think most of us last year thought it would make a good country duet. I also thought most of us prefered TDTWT over AATY but I am getting old so maybe I'm just not remembering correctly.

OA may be soooo played out and cheesy to a lot of people here but let me tell you -when I first heard this song while watching "The Last American Virgin" over fuckin' 25 years ago, it gave me the chills. This song introduced me to SMFP and Journey. I said to myself "Now this is what you call a power ballad!". The piano intro, the vocals, Neal's guitar and overall arrangement of this song is indescribable.

Check out @ 4:15 on this clip. You could not ask for a better song in this scene.

I've never seen this movie, nor this clip with the song - thanks for posting it!

lol...forgot what this thread was about. Yep, I'm guilty of imagining SP singing AATY and basically the whole Revelation CD...I think JC, NS, SP had such a strong dynamic and that is what JC was writing for with Revelation...ya, know the legacy sound.
