Gotta disagree. By greatest you'd have to say they were influential. Who has U2 influenced? They have some good albums up until Achtung Baby. After that they faltered a bit until All You Can't Leave Behind and have been on the rise again.

I'd label them as 2nd most enduring band since they're pushing 20 years in the limelight (Stones in at first).

For greatest rock band, The Beatles still own that (unless you don't consider them rock).

In 8 years '62-'70, they changed the face of music. Put on Revolver and Sgt. Peppers and there's no question they own U2.

For downright heavy rock, Led Zep, Rush and AC/DC are still ahead of U2 in my book.

Good points, but Bruce has influenced as much or more than any band. Beatles, Bruce and maybe Zeppelin. Dylan as well.

Bruce is a category all his own. In the '70s he took the workingman blues and made it some of the best music out there. Mellencamp picked up on this and used it as a model for his success.

Born To Run, The River, Out In The Street, classics that Mellencamp wishes he could touch.

Bruce had copycats then and still does today. Here's a couple:

On The Dark Side - John Cafferty

The City - Joe Purdy

Where some were complaining about Bruce's new album, here's the deal in comparison with U2.

WOAD is good all the way through with some outstanding tracks. U2's has a few ok tracks and some clunkers.

This may be U2's "Generations" release meaning I don't think they put their all into it. Picked up some licks from previous successes, kept similar sounds and called it done.

Great live band and the Letterman gig was great marketing.

Now, can you imagine a week of Bruce on Letterman? They'd have to rent out a stadium. Hell, Letterman can stay home and let Bruce and the big man do the show.

U2 is to perform (today) at the Somerville Theatre (Davis Square), MA. This is an unscheduled concert with no ticket purchases, by appointment only. The theater is a small venue that Soul SirkUS had performed. Rumor has it, that they will attend a local Irish pub after the show.

Yeah...they managed to keep it a secret until last night. It's only a 900 seat venue, which is quite interesting for a band like U2. According to Bono, U2 got their American start in Boston and he said that he "wanted to get back to the band's roots" in a local interview. The fact that the city of Boston has more Irish folks than Dublin Ireland should make him feel right at home.

Used to think I liked those 2 records a lot too b/c they SEEMED similar to the masterpiece that is Achtung Baby but now only Numb, Lemon, Babyface, The Wanderer, and If You Wear That Velvet Dress (which I DIDN'T care for back when I loved these albums) stand out of the lot of both albums.

Okay. I've given it more listens, and I like it. It's not their best, no, but there's songs I really like and many are growing on me after listening a few times. Bono's voice is definitely showing signs of wear and tear from over the years. But so far I would say there's enough songs on here that I like that make it worth owning. Definitely not a Joshua Tree, but pretty good. I'm just glad to have some new music from them.

Jana, I heard this cd today in it's entirety.

It's awful at best. This is their worst cd ever, and I like this band. Puke. 1 star.

See, I know I'm not objective with this band, so I did listen over and over b/c I wasn't fond of it the first couple of listens straight through. So I listened to it three more times this past week and songs grew on me. Time will tell if I want to like it so much that I've talked myself into it or if I truly keep enjoying the CD for the most part.

Well, they have sold 100 million albums, but I agree. Cheesy rock-glam rock. Can Jon Bon Jovi try any harder to Springsteen his music any more than he has? It's sad to see him ride Bruce's coat tails.

I would say REM, and Bon Jovi are at the top of the class.

Well to be fair, at least they are attempting to stay relevant, and not put the same stuff out every cd. What would all the U2 fans say if they put out a new song that sounded exactly like Beautiful Day like Journey has done with their latest? So, we have to be fair to them and Bono especially for at least trying a new direction. Having said that, these songs and the entire cd suck assmilk.

Almost give this to you Deb, but Bono is a fuckin icon,a brilliant mind. Coldplay is an English soft Journey with inferior talent. Like I said, "almost."

Mr. Big just plain sucks. The mere mention of their name in the presence of my buddies elicits wild laughter. But then again, so does Journey.  But at least they don't suck. Herbie's best post-Journey band was Roxette. I'm really starting to appreciate their catalog. Tons of gems in there. Funny thing is that I really didn't get into them at the time.
