HOLY CRAP! I thought I was the only person on Earth who owned that CD. I LOVE that disc. Check out Highway 9's CD "What in Samhill". It's the Mr. Reality guys with a not so acoustic feel. Not as good, but still a good album.

A goodly chuck of the MR Chica Posse got to see Enchant at a Prog festival in San Francisco last year (they were on before JSSB). I thought they were fabulous. I need to go to ITunes and download some of their stuff; thx for the reminder.

My list:

White Sister -- They blew me (and lots of other people) away at Firefest last year. Their first album has become a daily listen. There's something haunting (and gritty at the same time) about Dennis Churchill-Dries' voice.

Lynch Mob -- Rip's responsible for this one. :) Best band at Rock the Bayou last year (well, except for Sammy); George Lynch and Marco Mendoza together were just amazing.

Loud & Clear -- Another find at Firefest; Jess Harnell has the voice of an angel (and of a Transformer, since he's also a voice actor for Disney).

Brule & AIRO -- This one is kinda out there, but it's American Indian Rock Music; I saw them perform live at Mount Rushmore a couple of years ago and they were spectacular.

Agreed, I was quite impressed with them. Also thought Lana Lane was pretty good too, but that first band (can't remember their name) not so much. Enchant was the one picture I took that wasn't JSSB. Cuz ya know, it was all about these 2. :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kyec69txVfo LOL, I still laugh when I hear that, you can hear me saying to Cindi "are you getting this on video?" when they are sharing a mic right in front of us.........duh! of course she is.

Off topic, Deb, I've just really been impressed with JSS. I listened to "21st Century" after hearing "Broken Man" and both are phenomenal. Utterly and completely. I'm not impressed with his sign language and hand movements during the video for "21st Century", but the song is damn good.

Very cool interview! Lots coming up........solo tour, Talisman, W.E.T, working with Lukather and something he couldn't say too much about yet that he might be doing in May. Aw love what he had to say about Perry. :)

Tony Harnell From his work with TNT spanning 80's metal to 00's modern melodic metal to other projects such as Starbeaker and Westworld, a phenominal vocalist!

I really struggle with lists. I am not the type to be able to give 'top 10 horror flicks' or 'top 10 favorite albums' or anything. There are other artists that truly desreve recognition for their talents such as those we discuss here like JSS (Red List and Beautiful Mess are INCREDIBLE) and Kevin Chalfant. But when it comes to saying 'You gotta check this out' it always hits me in the moment but not when I am trying to think about it. Maybe I will come back and add 2 more later....

Great list, Dave. Always liked Colin James stuff. And very cool to see Henry Lee Summer on there, LOL I think me and Larry are the only ones who've ever mentioned him. Crazy bugger, but I totally dug his voice and music......loved I Wish I Had A Girl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rezwyQvigWs and Darlin Danielle Don't. Kinda had that cool smokey rasp that EM has. Going to have to have a listen of some of his later work. Not sure if I've ever heard anything from Tony Harnell before.

Hey Deb, Colin James is playing the Nakusp Music Fest on Sunday, July 19 - the same day as The Gregg Rolie Band! (I already have my ticket 8) ) No word yet on the headlining act to close out the weekend, but if it turns out to be Triumph, I might actually levitate out of my chair.

I won't go for the obvious ones here, like Journey and JSS, as you already know all about them, so here's my pick of bands to look out for:-

Rush
This band excels on so many levels. Musicianship, both individually and collectively. Their live performance. The quality of their live ‘show’ (ie the videos, the lighting etc). The songwriting. The lyrics…. I could go on.

Thunder
The best rock band never to have made it really big, without a doubt (An accident of timing. Like JSS, Thunder's brand of melodic rock got completely scuppered by the advent of grunge in the early 90's and no radio stations would play them). Fantastic songs played with gusto and humour, as well as skill. Thunder really engage with their audience to put on a show you can’t help but enjoy. They also do everything themselves – run their own website, do all their own promotion, manage their own tours etc etc.

Joe Bonamassa
Often described as the best blues guitarist of his generation (he’s in his early 30’s). I’d say he’s probably one of the best blues guitarists of any generation. However you have to see him live to really appreciate what he can do. His albums are superb, particularly the last two, but they don’t begin to describe the quality of his musicianship live. The last time I saw him, I looked around and there were experienced guitarists in the audience with jaws agape, watching in absolute awe.

Ian Hunter
Ian’s former band Mott The Hoople were a great band in the early 70’s. Since then Ian has been solo and is regarded as one of the best lyricists ever to come out of the UK. Sort of like Bob Dylan, but without the angst and with a voice you can actually understand. His ballads are very poignant and moving, his rockers are pure rhythm and blues foot stomping belters.

Gun
Gun’s debut album, ‘Taking on the World’, released around 1989 I think, remains in my opinion the best debut album I’ve ever heard. What is even more remarkable is that the AVERAGE age of the band at that time was just 17. It really is a stunning sophisticated album, a little like U2 in places, like UFO in others. All their subsequent albums are good solid rock albums.

I booked the time off in January, because so many people want to go the Fest and priority goes by date of request, but there's no way to know what could come up. One of the biggest problems are the lineups for the ferry during that weekend but I'll be going in on the Sunday not Friday night. I hope you get to go this year!

Fair Warning - Tommy Heart & Co. should have been HUGE, like most of these bands. Tommy's voice sticks out, and Helge Engelke's guitars are awesome....The music is melodic and catchy. He's no Steve Perry, and Helge is no Neal...but they don't have to be......

Great add....

I'm told by people from Switzerland that it is indeed pronounced Got-Hard, with a hard "H". It was quite the topic on another board last year, when I posed the question. I learned that they are named after a mountain and it's tunnel there. 8)

So, what of the rest, Sean?

I'm an old school PC69-er....Andi Deris era....lost track during the DR years....I'll definitely check them out tho'....

As far as Threshold, I'm into progressive, but it has to HIT me, you know. No offense, but they don't do it for me.

H.E.A.T. - have the Cd, haven't listened to them yet....I will and get back to you.

and GOTT-HARD...what needs to be said about Steve Lee? Nothng. Guy is a class act. Have all the CDs, 'cept for the live stuff. Top 10 band for me. And the J-Boyzzzz aren't in my top 20, so that says it all....

Keep 'em coming Deb..... :D

See? Now, Andi Deris doesn't do it for me. :? Everytime one of those songs would come on shuffle, I usually skip it. Can you tell I'm a HUGE David Readman fan???

I love progressive, too, and Threshold is a different kind of prog to me, so I guess that's why I like it. Not necessarily a 'prog by numbers' with them.
