Cool how they're PLAYING "Majestic" now instead of just rolling a tape of it. Cool.

You need to bask in the glory of "Change for the Better." It's the "Escape" of the new millennium. I used to think "Escape" was just okay, but I love it now. It and "Higher Place" better find its way into the setlists. They can shitcan LTS.

Escape is a longtime favorite of mine. To this day, Arnel's the ONLY one I've heard do it justice live.

Makes ya almost start to believe again, doesn't it?

I've pretty much believed since Arnel came aboard. Listen to the crowd on those youtubes. Haven't heard a Journey reaction like that for a long time.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Remember when everybody was raving about his performance last year? Well, judging by these vids, he's even better than he was on his best night last year.

I said it once before and say it again, he's working on his diction! It's so noticeable. He's working on his A's to be spefic! I'm so happy for the band they are back better than anyone has ever expected.

I'll defend the fort.

As for CFtB, the entire song is a cosmic masterpiece, but my personal favorite segment is after the first chorus: Neal's brief solo and Arnel's lyric: "I was like a drowning man in a wishing well, hold me from the darkness and save me from myself." Very haunting.

Jana's right as always!

It'd be interesting to be a fly on the wall in the Journey camp these days. From the road crew to the band, it's gotta be pretty happy vibes. Gotta wonder how Arnel's liking it.

Being the humble, down to earth guy he is, I'm certain he finds it a bit overwhelming. Still, he seems to stay pretty grounded.

But I wonder if there's that big homesick vibe hanging over him. Granted, I THINK this is a short tour they're doing now (maybe it's over now, I have no idea). But I hope that the guy doesn't get tired of the road before they get a few more albums out. It musta been pretty cool for them to come to Manilla and have Arnel be able to show them around and stuff. Who knows, maybe they sat in their hotel rooms the whole time. Just wonder what the band dynamic is like. HOPEFULLY everybody's writing like crazy.

Well, the band was at a beautiful resort in the Philippines, and Arnel said they had a great time. And I think they went to a club or two with Arnel showing them around. I can't remember the specifics.

Cherry and his step-daughter went with him to China and then went home. And Hawaii, well, that's not a bad place to be for a week. He checked in at the SB and seemed in great spirits. And this year Arnel is bringing the kids and wife with him on the U.S. part of the tour, so that should make a big difference.

That's cool of them to let him bring the family. Geez, I remember reading something about Styx where only Shaw and Young could bring their wives or something. Pretty lame. Maybe that was "the band will pay for..." or something.

Yeah, it'd be interesting to see if that helps Arnel make the best of the road. I would imagine that keeping the voice in shape with the vocal stuff and then also his workout schedule could get in the way of that stuff.

They did get some R&R in the Philippines. This was from the official site found under LC73, which is Lori Carpenter's profile. I can sure sense the bond they have. It sure can't hurt. :D

Good for them. That's fantastic. And Lori Carpenter is hot. (I assume that's the woman whose breast is about to be fondled by Neal?)

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Jonathan Cain is nearly sixty years old and looks damn young and fit for his age. I hope that's how I go.

Q.F.T. :)

Arnel has improved tremendously, particularly in the one respect that has frustrated me no end:
he used to belt everything out; no soto voce deliveries. That's no longer an issue.
The improvements in pronunciation (on the classic songs, it kinda matters to me) are a bonus,
and even the hard T's at the end of words are being brought under control.

I'll echo what has been mentioned on this thread:
I hope they're writing new material --stuff that's tailored to Arnel's style and to Deen's.
I don't care if Jon and Neal have a thousand songs already tucked away, ready to record;
I want them to write stuff now, as a band.

Tuned down. If it's going to save his voice, I'm okay with it. But it's very clearly tuned down. From what I can tell on other clips, they aren't tuning down every show.

I can kind of see what was going on when it was announced that Arnel, a native of the Philippines, had been hired as Journey's new front man. I was cool with the idea from the beginning, but yet skeptical at the same time.

In it's infancy there are 4 basic stages that an idea or concept goes thru.

1. Violent Rejection
2. Denial
3. Acceptance
4. It is embraced

Step 4 is being accomplished. I am hearing people from the previous "oh, hell no!" crowd, who are actually turning a liking ear to the new lead singer, even attending concerts again, then giving glowing reviews. The other sour grapes, well you just don't hear much from them anymore. They are being silenced by the Journey mafia.

Frankly, I'm delighted. There's still plenty of fight in them.
