Backing vocals? Jesus himself can do all the damn back-up vocals he wants and I wouldn't give two, maybe even three shits. This guy needs to come out with his "new album." Until then, I'm not impressed with what this dude ever does, whether it be playing hanky panky at a baseball game, humming happy birthday with Billy Ray Sirus, or doing backup vocals that no one can hear him on some shitty music.

While he's working on his 10 year album, it is Journey who is touring the world and actually making a new name for themselves. Point: Journey.

If he is singing background vocals he must be singing them from the next room. I couldnt hear him in there at all.

As much as I love Steve Perry's singing, I for one will not be checking it out. This type of music holds no appeal for me what-so-ever, with or without SP. However, it does show me that he likes to stay on top of what's current in popular music and reinforces my belief that should he actually come out with a new cd this year, he won't be singing old Motown retreads boring duets or covers of someone elses music. It will be something he wrote and will be current and relevant for today. IMHO

'We're going to have Steve Perry come in and do this part'

I doubt they are going to have SP come in "and do this part" and have him blend in with the rest. There has to be a track with him out front, I would think.

Maybe it will be a punk album! I hope so.
I want to see how many people suddenly become fans of that kind of thing just because Perry is doing it.

How many times have we read stuff like "he could sing the phone book and I'd buy it?" So, will the faithful stay aboard if Perry goes punk, goth, or metal? (which of course he won't but I'm a fan of anarchy so my wish is that Perry goes nuts, puts out a metal album, and everyone flips out  )

Boy, I agree with that. Unless this music interests him or he knows somebody there, not sure why? I'm like you, I'll bet there will at least be a line or two by himself.

Good point; from all the SP news gathered around here in the past few years, he has been associated only with the current music scene. The Guff collaboration ... and, before that, there were those pics of him sitting in on the rehearsals of some funky gothic band. Maybe being with these kids and their kind of music keep him feeling young  .

I agree with that part. I mean really, WTF!??! What's this guy doing creeping around, haunting recording studios, bogarting his way onto other people's records. It's not like he's back in his "starving musician" days where he's trying to pick up work here and there and working for scale. Jeebus, SMFP! Either do the thing or don't do it. No more of this half-steppin'.

Ditto. 8)

Hearing a barely there Perry as back-up vocals, which aren't even prominent, is like not hearing him at all. For me, I could care less.

Yea, that's trash. Not convinced any of those songs contain his voice. Not sure why he'd do this but maybe he knows somebody there. If he sings on there, I'll bet he does something else that we can tell it's him.

No one said Perry was actually singing background on these tracks.  It just said ..."Morello had one secret weapon in the sidelines too. Steve Perry — yes, the very Perry from Journey — did some backing vocals on the album."

So that means he may have sung backup on a couple of tracks not the whole album
