I'd say Gabe would've been chosen if he can hit the other songs as well as these two. He's a Perry clone ala Hugo with a better voice.

Arnel can probably hit higher notes. Not sure if this guy can nail OA and some of the other pre Escape stuff but I'd love to hear it. Not to dis AP but if this guy's the real deal, I wouldn't mind hearing a record with him on it.

If nothing else, Rolie should pick him up for his band. Some sweet tunes might result.

Yep I agree with Stonecold, if he can sing the other Jouney stuff as well he's the best thing I have ever heard and I am sure Schon would agree because as much as people say AP and augeri sound like steve, I like them both but to me neither one of them sound a bit like Perry. I can actually close my eyes and listen to hear and see Perry and I am sure You guys all know I am a loon so that is a pretty high compliment coming from me.

The guy singing sounds exactly like AP in the 80's on this song Separate Ways. That's what amazes me the most, the guy does a perfect 80's AP. Only difference with the sound though is this guy didn't take some of the higher notes in the song a few notches higher like AP would do. Never the less....very good.

Im no expert for sure, but to me he sounds much more like Perry then Arnel ever has...The guy not only has the tone down, but he also frames the words almost exactly like Perry. I have heard several Perry clones, but imo, this guy is the best.

Ok I was just basing my opinion on what I have heard. I remember seeing Arnel, when he was with the Zoo, doing Open Arms ( on youtube as well), and I thought he was great, till he tried to hit the higher sustained notes. To me, at that point he sounded more like Axl Rose. I just think that this guy transitions thru the notes much better, and is much cleaner. Plus he has the tone, and phrases the words really well
As to if Arnel is more talented, Im not sure. I do wonder how this guy would sound with Neal , Jon and Co backing him up.

I do too and again I love Arnel but how long is he gonna hang out with Neal? I doubt past the end of his contract since he is achieving superstar status back him I bet that is what he will do and Neal will be touring until he goes to the grave because it is all he knows and that alimony is a bitch so hey Neal give the guy a call!! I agree completely. At this late stage in the game, they need to keep options open. Not sure they'll trade the new Asian popularity simply to give Gabe a try but it wouldn't hurt to have him come up and cut some tracks just in case.

AP will not suffer as there are countless bands that would pick him up in a heartbeat.

One thing we don't know is what Gabe's stamina is. AP is a monster on stage so he'd be hard to top.

Yes, that is very true Rick, I will have to agree with you there. Arnel is something special, and totally in his own league. Words can't describe how good he really is, though he can sing any song, and nail it every time, that's pretty rare these days.

Yea I would definitely not send AP packing because his energy is fantastic on stage but hey when he decides to go out on his on back home, then yea. AP has definitely resurrected the band and I don't want to see him leave but again cutting a few tracks with Journey on the back burner would not hurt.

He doesn't come close to Arnel in talent to me. As far as sounding more like Perry, the thing is I don't want someone who is singing and sounds exactly like Perry b/c anyone pales in comparison or they don't have Steve's charm and stage presence. That's why Arnel works for me. He has a powerful tenor voice that I love listening to, and he does shine on the majority of the songs in the old catalogue I've heard him perform so far, which evokes the Perry sound but not a clone. And I love Arnel's energy on stage, and his big smile just radiates a positivity on stage that the audience seems to embrace.

Arnel is Journey's last stop. I don't think he'll be around as long as Augeri but he is the final act before they retire so let him enjoy this moment.

When Neal retires, so does Journey. People thinking Miles is going to continue the group obviously haven't listened to the man's music. He wants to make it on his own, not be Rock's version of Menudo living off of his father's success.

And what's that got to do with this thread, nothing. I just thought 'd put it out there.

Ironic, "Santana" is supposed to be bigger than Journey (won a grammy, Carlos more famous than Neal) but a tribute band opened for him while Journey had Cheap Trick and Heart.

Zoo clips are recent in my opinion anyways. The guy in this clip I think is at least twenty years younger then AP. Don't get me wrong, I think the guy sounds really good, but in twenty years from now, I'd like to see how well this guy can sing Perry tunes then.

Why doesn't he drop the sucky band? No disrespect to Arnel because I like him alot but can you imagine how he would sound with Neil and company? Amazing!!

Ok...all things being equal, if neal saw this guy the same time as he saw Arnell, who do you think would have got ' the call '?

There is possibly a point missed. Just because a guy can sound good, does not mean he can entertain. The fact that AP can entertain was probably somewhat known, but really, the proof is in the pudding, as they say. Looking back from Journey's first debut of Arnel Pineda in Chile to where they are now, it becomes rampantly clear that Arnel has a way with the audiance. Listen to the way the crowd responds after an intro and he comes running out on stage. That, as they say in show biz, is a tough act to follow. Neal knows what he has and knows it's working at the present time. I don't think he, nor the band, are in a position to gamble with that. And why should they? The present arrangement is working, probably far better than they imagined, at this point in their careers. Now I see them wondering if they will all be able to keep up with all the success that is on the horizon.

And a guitar player named Dufus ! God, that guy sucks. I hate it when one member holds back the whole band. When you only have one guitar player that guy has to shine or it fucks up the whole show. I can understand not being note perfect but I know 16 year olds that could eat this guys lunch. Shit, their all over you tube !

Patience, my friends. Soon you will hear Jason Kelty in all his former (and future) glory. I have heard plenty of other SMFP's, and live Jason is the only one that does it for me (Jeremy being second).

Obviously, you can't go wrong with either of them. However, I am always leery of someone until I hear them live. That's where it matters.....

Feeling a little deja vu here... Hehe. Come on Paul ! Give us the goods. You know we are behind you guys 100%. Glad to hear that the ball is still rolling. Is Jason enjoying his return to the mic ?

I have to agree with Paul. Jason is the top dog and not only with Journey material I would bet. The guy is just plain talented and gifted period. Looking very forward to hearing him again. This new guy on the scene that started this thread is a bad mofo himself however I withdrawl my "Maybe better than Kelty" after listening to the clips a few more times. Jason just tap dances all over it like he was born to do it. This other guy sings well but just doesnt have the same presence that Jason has.

Just do us fans one favor when it comes time. If you play Wheel in the sky PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD play it at least close to the album tempo and not at warp speed like Journey did live. It just erases the feel.
