Thank you! I was wracking my brain wondering where I heard that song before...I was pretty sure I hadn't heard Rod singing it before and I don't know who Jeff Beck is other than seeing his name mentioned here on board, but his guitar was really soothing in that clip.

Steve & Journey played People Get Ready their first year together, too, on the King Biscuit Hour, I think.

it was written by curtis mayfield in the 60s. eleventyjillion artists have recorded it, but the jeff beck/rod stewart version from the mid 80s is one of the more well-known versions. it's definitely my favorite. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... d=32011349

rod was the first vocalist in the jeff beck group. he's on the 1st two albums, truth & beckola. i seem to be one of the only serious female jeff beck fans. i'm usually one of about 5 girls in the audience. most of the people in the crowd are male musicians or guitar geeks, age 45-60.

Rod's on Jeff Beck's late '60s albums Truth and Beck-ola. They also collaborated in the '80s. Rod also appears on Jeff's 1985 album Flash ("People Get Ready") and Jeff appears on Rod's Downtown Train. Of course, that is not an exhaustive list.

Oh, so this Jeff Beck Group goes back quite a long period. I think his name came up with me as a RnR HOF inductee. Never was aware of any of his songs. Rod started his career with him, hmmm. Well, I'm sure yt has lots of examples of his/their work.

When I first opened the link on that LA show and watched Jeff&Rod up on stage, caught me fantasizing that Jeff was Neal and Rod was Steve just for a minute, hehe. And, I remember Journey performed People Get Ready in the old radio show. I have the boot of it. Steve was fantastic, and there was a female chorus singing backup vocals. Goosebumps! Great gospel song.

First time I've seen a "Perry" thread get out shined by other artists. No real surprise here though, Beck has been a guitar legend forever and this reunion only upped Stewart's street cred after going pop friendly for the last couple decades. It was great to see them back together. If we're lucky they'll reunite on a new album. I'd love to see it.

Just weeks after reuniting with Jeff Beck Group bassist Ronnie Wood at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, Jeff Beck found himself onstage with another former bandmate from his namesake band last night as Rod Stewart hit the stage at Beck’s gig at the El Rey in Los Angeles.

According to Live Daily, Stewart surprised Beck last night when he appeared onstage with a microphone in hand, singing on covers of Curtis Mayfield’s “People Get Ready” and Willie Dixon’s “I Ain’t Superstitious,” which Beck and Stewart recorded together in 1967 for the Jeff Beck Group’s Truth.

Stewart served as vocalist of the Jeff Beck Group for the classic LPs Truth and Beck-Ola. Wood, who along with Beck’s former Yardbirds bandmate Jimmy Page performed at the Rock Hall ceremony, was also a member of that Jeff Beck Group lineup. After Beck-Ola, both Stewart and Wood left the Group, forming another band that has been surrounded by reunion talk in recent months, the Faces. Beck and Stewart briefly reunited again in 1985 for their cover of “People Get Ready” for Beck’s Flash.

Last year, Rolling Stone spoke to Beck about the prospect of the Jeff Beck Group possibly reuniting, and at the time Beck seemed pessimistic. “Reformation of bands is never my idea of a good idea. Leave well enough alone, especially 35 years after it happened,” Beck told RS. “It would be fun if we did it in private to see if it would sound any good, but leave it well enough alone and remember it for being groundbreaking at the time.”

Jeff Beck started out with the Yardbirds and played on most of their hit songs. He left the group at the height of their popularity and formed the Jeff Beck Group. The Jeff Beck Group consisted of Beck, Stewart, Ron Wood and Nicky Hopkins Ansley Dunbar was briefly with the band in 1967. Various other musicians were in and out of the group as well.

Rod Stewart sang and Jimmy Page also played 12 string guitar on Jeff Beck "Truth" released 1968 . The Album also featured various other musicians who also contributed including John Paul Jones, (Led Zeppelin) Aynsley Dunbar (Journey) & Keith Moon (The Who).

The Jeff Beck Group also recorded Beck Ola released in 1969. The band broke up on the eve of Woodstock and even though they were booked, they never performed. No tape or film of the band performing has ever been released. There is little photographic record of the band. What a shame

Beck has always been somewhat of a maverick who doesn't stay in bands very long. He has his own vision and doesn't seem to work well with others on a long term basis.

jeff beck replaced eric clapton in the yardbirds. jeff then recruited his childhood friend, jimmy page, to play bass. jimmy eventually switched from bass to guitar & they both played guitar in the yardbirds for a short time before jeff left the band. some crazy talent came from that band!

Really my pet peeve have been with Steve Perry's drum tracks on especially Street Talk.
They are bland & insiped...
They just don't cut through for me...

So whatever he is working on ( if he is) I hope he throws in some deep acoustic soul stirring beat.

I wasn't that particularily fond of Journey and "People Get Ready"; always seems that some folks feel in order to sing "gospel" people need to slow things up like the parades in New Orleans as they march through town to the cemetary. It's not until they reach the grave site that things lighten up and people start to celebrate. It is just too slow for me and words are so carefully pronounced that the joy of the song and the celebration of People Get ready is lost! It is a nice tune just doesn't capture the spirit I'm listening for!

it's hard for me to imagine jeff beck in a band with a full-time vocalist. a friend of mine thinks that jeff's playing is so lyrical, no vocalist is worthy of singing near his guitar. i like occasionally hearing guest vocalists like beth hart or rod stewart. i'd be happy if i never heard joss stone ever again.

one of my keyboards has a shift key that doesn't always depress completely. i decided it was better to be consistently lower case than randomly upper case. after a while, i got used to never shifting & started to like the way lower case looks.

no, i don't have an iphone. i've got a treo with a defective "k" key. my ability to tell someone to "take a hike" or "fuck off" is severely limited when i'm on the go. this reminds me of the time red13joepa busted some keys & ended up typing in another language.

i plan to camp out for a palm pre. roger mcnamee says it runs rings around the iphone & is a MILLION times faster!
