I don't begrudge anyone seeing Journey and I dont subscribe to the Idea that they'd be selling out 100 shows with Perry back for a reunion tour either.
Tons of people didn't care for Augeri and some don't care for Pineda. It doesn't mean they're going to throw away their Journey collection because it's not the line up they want (well, there are a few that might).
Can we say that there are really only majority two camps, the classic Journey camp and the Journey camp? The classic Journey fans hanging here primarily because most other boards focus on current Journey only (which they should, that's what they were created for)?

I don't fault people for preferring Perry or cashing in on the overabundant nostalgia.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

When you get old like us, you'll see what were talking about. It's something that is probably not logical but seems to be part of our mental makeup, non the less.

Right, I agree. Gunbot: it is the lineup I miss, the camaraderie, the feeling I got from the men whom I grew up listening to who, despite any issues they have with each other, enjoyed their art. Even though their voices have changed (Jagger did not have Perry's pipes obviously) they forged forward not just for fans, but because they are artists and love what they do. To see any artist happy with him/herself makes me in particular, enjoy them that much more.

Gideon: Yea, I doubt I would enjoy Perry attempting to do what his voice can no longer offer, but in my tiny world if Perry and Journey got along and Perry was still with the group they would have found a way to continue on. Lots of bands keep going, some fans still remain, some leave. I would have stayed because I liked that group of 5 men, I liked not just Perry’s voice, but what they had as a team. If Journey was still with Perry and Perry dropped a few notes or if the group’s new shows had a young, good looking set of background singers backing up Perry's once high notes or if they had that ever present group of gospel choir singers flourishing in the background, or if they let the audience do all the singing or even if Journey did Vegas with fire eaters, flying monkeys and they pulled a band member - sorry, audience member, from the audience to help Perry sing the rest of Open Arms, I would support them because they were THAT band, that group of guys that I liked. I guess I am an old shoe.

Especially since I have not been into Journey since the 80’s, really. Journey is great and I love that the men still play, but it would be hard for me to hear a sound that evokes memories from long ago without the entire package. Example: The Stones have been dead for 20 years, yet they still rock on with Jagger! Yeap, the same skeletal remains grace those stages and people are grateful to support them. That is what I had hoped to have with Journey with Perry, but it did not come to pass. So, I listen to their old music with Perry and I am fine with that. Course, I still wish Perry would continue to sing, but I also wish I was 25, smart and had a longer waist so that when I sit down my boobies don’t fall into my crotch!

LMFAO I hate when that happens!

The key to slouching boobies, is to let them keep slouching until they get to your toes and then step out of them.

It seems the bigger sponsor you can get, the better the prices are. U2 prices are very reasonable, one of the reasons there stadium shows sold out instantly. $35 might not sound like a lot of profit for the band but multiply that by capacity of 100,000 in one venue and it changes everything. Def Leppard, Aerosmith, AC-DC, all are charging the same as Journey, playing the amphitheater circuit and doing well. Bon Jovi even had 100 sellouts last summer so no slouch there either. You just have to choose who you want to see. For me, last summer was Journey and Iron Maiden, this year will be Def Leppard and a few lower profile artists.
Pat Benatar and CW are the only one's I'll pay to see annually but to each his own.
And Heart's always a bargain if they're by themselves.

My wife and all her girlfriends who are in Japan all want to go to see these bands because they all feel that their live concerts are numbered since these bands are getting up there in age. While we were in Japan in May, she wanted to see AC/DC so bad and she just kept saying how it could be the last chance to see them. So I think a lot of fans who go to these concerts with these 80's era rock bands have this also in the back of their minds for wanting to go see them now.

I always think that way. What if Neal was really ill, God forbid, or something. Without Neal, the band would stop. So no skipping a year for me right now while the band is doing this good and on top of their game. 8)
